Strength:

Sleek design. Amazing saturation. Just use Reala and prepare to be amazed. Many cameras come and go but this one will stay for a while. Non-flash photography works best with this camera!

Weakness:

If you forgot to turn on the red-eye reduction, then the photos are just for the trash can. Probably less saturation compared to Sureshot or Prego in daylight photography but compensated by good night mode.

I've used this camera almost 3 yrs now. Along the way, I always ask myself if there were any "better" P&S that I may have overlooked. So I bought a Canon Sureshot and a Rollei Prego 30 throughout these years and compared them side-by-side with Stylus Epic. Sureshot and Prego were noticably better in bright daylight photography. In fact, I really liked the outdoor photography by Sureshot. But Prego and Sureshot both failed in night mode test. Apparently the shutters were not opened long enough for night shots. Stylus Epic produces brilliant cityscapes everytime with a tripod and even with an ISO 100. Sureshot and Prego 30 didn't fare well in this area. In fact, photos in poor lighting turned out plainly useless from Prego.

Strength:

Fast lens with good optics light and small weather-resistant spot-metering

Weakness:

no exposure compensation (but it''s a P&S, so it''s OK). can''t manually override film ISO (ditto) doesn''t remember setting

Before I had this camera, I always seemed to struggle with decisions when I travel with my family: slide film vs. negative film, "serious" photographys vs. family snapshots, etc. When travelling with family, it is silly and selfish to lug around heavy and expensive photo equipment -- and it takes the fun out of a family vacation. But, for my "serious" type of photography I want to use slide film, and for family snapshots I need negative film. I was constantly in the dilemma. But I didn''t want those point-and-shoots with slow zoom lenses (they are usually something like 4.5-8.9!!). After I acquired this little camera, all these problems seem to have disappeared. This camera is so small and light that I can put it in my shirt pocket and not even feel its existance. The lens is sharp, bright and distortion free. And the camera is cheap, I got it for $90, nowadays you can even get it for less than that amount. If you buy a 35mm f/2.8 lens for your SLR, the lens itself will cost more than this camera (and it will most like be heavier too). Now I can bring a Rebel 2000 plus one small lens (such as the EF 35mm f/2 or EF 50mm f/1.4) and this little camera, and I am much happier than before (and so are my other family members)

WOW!! What a camera. I''''''''ve never had a point and shoot before because I felt they were inadequate for my needs, BUT this little fellow is fast, light, attractive, small, and meets nearly all of my casual photo taking needs. Plus, I can give it to my wife and get great pics. I love it.

Strength:

The lens has a deserved reputation for sharpness, while it is so tiny and light it can slip into a pocket. It really is barely more obtrusive than a mobile phone. In fact, the light weight can lead the user to be less than careful. I have quite a few failed shots because I was too hurried and pressed the shutter without concentrating enough. My fault, not the camera. Film is usually ISO 400 b&w or colour negative (print film). Fast film ensures the aperture provides good depth of field (lots in focus), and using negative film means exposure errors can be compensated for in printing. Slides look great, but exposure is hard work and unpredictable, even with the excellent spot meter. One reviewer complained about battery life. Over two years I have put and dozens of rolls of film through mine before the Lithium cell approached the end of its life. Accurate exposure and focussing, a spot meter, good low light performance and supreme portability mean it is always to hand. Weakness:

- bad red-eye with flash (marginally better with red-eye reduction mode) - the flash is always set to be on, and it will use flash even in quite bright conditions. I now turn the auto-flash off every time I open the camera. - no control of aperture (a minor gripe) - it sometimes produces out of focus shots. It seems to require a second press of the shutter button to solve. This is mentioned in the manual. Frustration with flash modes and aperture are the only reason it doesn''t quite manage 5 rating.

Having owned my Stylus Epic Limited for two years now, it has become my go-anywhere camera. I have come to terms with its limitations, and enjoy making photographs ''on the fly'' with a minimum of equipment and fuss.

Customer Service

No experience. Olympus UK has a poor record on CS, I just hope I don''t have to deal with them.

Strength:

Sharp lens. Very impressive.

Weakness:

Sharp near center but blurry around either end of picture. Flash too overpowering. Skin tone came out bright. Red eye reduction not consistent. Works on and off. Some shots came out good, some not. In group shots, one or two people have red-eyes. Good small camera but ain''t no SLR camera.

Just bought a camera. Took a roll of 100 film. Sharp around the center, however quite blurry around either ends. Pictures came out quite sharp despite using 100 film indoor with flash. Sharpness comparable to SLR camera. I''m disappointed that in many group shots, pictures look sharp for people near the center. However, people on either end are blurry. A very dramatic different.

Strength:

Bright view-finder, compact and easy to carry around, super fast lens - 2.8f at 35mm.

Weakness:

Takes lot of battery power - I ran out a brand new 3v Duracell battery after 4 roll of film with 25% flash use.

I bought this camera as a gift to my brother and used for several rolls of film – this is one of the best I have used as fixed-focus camera – price is right, I paid $75 at local store. The best thing I liked about is bright view-finder compare to other fixed-focus and Zoom cameras. The 35mm 2.8f is the fast I have seen in market and very comfortable and easy to carry around in pocket. All my pictures came out right and bright even in low-light situation. I had same picture taken with a Minolta Action 90 zoom camera and came out little darker. The flash is powerful and even in night-time photography – it can handle clear picture. I used two 100 speed films and pictures look impressive – one friends commented that he cannot distinguished the quality of the pictures I have taken with Stylus and even with High end Nikon 35mm lens. To the bottom end, I would suggest others who is looking for auto-focus camera without zoom or someone likes to carry around a camera often.

Strength:

sharp lens, good for low light, very compact and inconspicuous size, water resistant.

Weakness:

Limited for creative photography. Not quite as indestructible as it looks. Occasional problem with the flash button sticking.

This is a good little camera for the money. Despite the fast and sharp lens though, this camera cannot replace an SLR if you want to do much creative photography. I found the autofocus too easy to confuse in certain situations (i.e., when there were a few branches in the foreground, it would focus on those rather than on the desired object behind), and of course there''s no way to manipulate depth-of-field or shutter speed/aperture (for darker photos, etc), though the spot-metering is definitely a plus and can give you some help sometimes. Filters also cannot be used, and flare cannot be controlled with a hood or anything. I guess all that should be obvious - this is a point-and-shoot, after all. Still, I like it as a supplement to my EOS / zoom. It''s small and light enough to put in your front pocket, so if you want to have a couple different films loaded in two cameras (i.e., one with black-and-white or slide film), or if you want an automatic flash immediately available on the camera (my EOS is an old one without flash), or if you want to stealthily take a quick and inconspicuous picture, or if you want to take a photo in relatively low light, this can help. The 35mm lens is good for landscapes and the 2.8 aperture is better than basically any moderately priced SLR consumer zoom, so with the flash turned off, it is still good in low-light conditions (of course, you don''t really know what shutter speed it will decide to take it at and whether you should be using a tripod). Anyway, I''ve had some excellent results - 8x10 enlargements came out sharp and with great color. Quite a bit better than my admittedly beat-up 35-80 kit lens on the SLR. Not having the zoom does limit you sometimes, but it may not be as limiting as the very slow ("dark") zoom lenses of almost all point-and-shoot zooms (excepting the $900 ones), particularly if you want to take low-light outdoor landscape pictures or portraits in available light (without flash). One last thing: This camera is so small and cute and sturdy-looking that you might forget that it''s a CAMERA, a precision instrument, not an unbreakable toy. I can attest that it definitely is breakable, unlike your average disposable camera which can be pretty much tossed across the yard without damage. Keep it away from careless kids and don''t start tossing it around yourself. The black case scatches pretty e
