Leica Mini Z2X Camera Point and Shoot

Leica Mini Z2X Camera Point and Shoot

DESCRIPTION

The LEICA Z(oom) 2X (with double focal length range) is an exceptionally elegant, handy, fully automatic 35mm-format camera with an excellent 35-70mm zoom lens. It is small enough to be stowed away in just about any pocket and thanks to its minimal weight it`s a pleasure to have around all the time.

Strength:

- zoom function
- custom functions
- convinient pouch

Weakness:

- poor lens optics
- plastic feel
- horrible noise with zoom lens extending / retracting and film winding

In mid 2000, soon after I bought a Contax T2 (2nd hand) and I was presented with a Lecia Z2X as a gift. At that time I though I would have a tough time in choosing which camera to use, the T2 is 10 years old in technology and the Z2X is much newer and has a useful zoom. To be honest I was rather biased towards the Z2X for the LEICA name.

I took the Z2X on a holiday to Japan and shot 7 rolls of film with a further 5 rolls shot in Hong Kong. Picture results from the Z2X are poor, Contax T2 just walks over. Shooting with same film, same scenary, same time, Z2X is always fuzzy, grainny and lack depth in the picture. On the other hand Contax is sharp, produces solid colours and thus produces an overall better picture.

Z2X has a less solid quality build, plastic and horrible motor noise when extending and retracting the lens, and after taking each picture.

I am disappointed with this camera carrying the Leica brand. I have sold it since. I was certainly stunned by the no where near Leica uality with the Z2X.

In my humble opinion, if you want true Leica picture, get something else maybe a Minilux (2nd hand is affordable) otherwise money is better spent with an Olympus.

Strength:

The Lens, Convenience, Ease of operation.

Weakness:

Seems Fragile??

It is a great lens that makes a versatile camera and this little leica is fantastic. While this drunks camera may not tune your car or mow your lawn like a Canon or Olympus 'do it all' it's advantage is the great lens, this camera reaches SLR standard. I am going to have a ball with this one.

Strength:

Best combination of features of any point and shoot under $500: Great lens, large and bright viewfinder, slim compact design, even flash illumination, dead-on accurate exposures, and support from Leica's quality dealers.

Weakness:

None.

There's no better point and shoot under $500. The lens is sharp and has high contrast. Camera is easy to use.

Customer Service

No problems have occurred so there has been no reason to request service.
