Strength:
Small size. Low price. 28mm lens. Konica lens isn't bad.
Weakness:
Soft focus patch in some prints. (Could be the minilab's fault, CVS has a problem with film-gate accuracy.) The U-Mini is about as small as an Olympus Stylus Epic. I wanted something this small with a 28mm lens, and mainly to see if it was workable as a tiny, re-usable disposable and had good prior experiences with Konica p/s cameras. Well, it this fits the bill if you don't ask it to do too much. It's fixed focus with an f/6.7 lens. Two auto-selected shutter speeds. There's no flash control; the flash automatically fires in any low-light situation. This particular U-Mini gave good exposures indoors and out. It's focus-free, and with 400-speed color neg film, it gave generally good results -- albeit a little overexposed. There's also a "soft" spot in some of the frames, where the image isn't sharp. I don't know whether this is a defect in the lens or a smudge. I'll try it with 200-speed film and see if it makes a difference. I would not use 800-speed film with this combination of lightness and autoflash; I'd fear all my photos would be washed out. I'll bet it's a two element lens. But it gets the job done in most circumstances Customer Service Nope. I'd just discard it. Not worth it. Similar Products Used: Konica MG, Olympus Stylus Epic, Ricoh R1, Rollei Prego 90. |
