Strength:

Crisp pictures (at times)

Clear outdoor pictures.

Large zoom.

Weakness:

Pictures blurry at times (even when the camera is steady

Camera rewinds HALF-WAY through a roll of film!

Viewfinder not very accurate (at times it was off by as much as approximately 20%).

Red eye reduction does not always produce good results.

I was very disappionted with this camera. I wouldn't recommend it to the casual photographer.

Customer Service

I returned it twice due to the view finder inaccuracy and mid-roll rewind. After the 3rd camera continued to pose the exact same problems, I just decided to sell the darn thing!

Strength:

Good zoom and battery life (so long as you switch it off...)

Weakness:

Long flash recharge, fiddly on -off/mode switch. Easy to mask flash with fingers.
Picture framing odd and shutter response slow.

Not impressed - first camera in about 30 years that has actually given up on me rather than been destroyed by accidental damage. Not over excited by the picture quality either.

Customer Service

Film wind-on system destroyed itself about 18 months - Canon didn't want to know and $120 repair bill meant I went and got a Pentax 738G instead...

Good Image Quality

Weakness:

Very slow shutter response

I Purchased this camera for my wife for Christmas. It replaces the Minolta Freedom Dual point and shoot we retired after 14 years of abuse. She wanted a resonably priced point and shoot capable of good results without much effort, and liked the features of this model.

This camera looks great on paper (spec. wise). It has multiple mode selections for Auto, Auto with red eye reduction, RT (real time to increase shutter response) and flash on or off mode.

Performance is another story. The 105mm zoom mechanism sounds cheap and unrefined as it zooms in and out. Shutter response is EXTREMELY SLOW to the point of disqualifying this camera for any action shots at all.

I used the camera to shoot my daughters soccer game last weekend and even in RT mode the camera reacted so slowly the camera missed the moment on most shots. Indoor shooting revealed even slower response with the flash and red eye reduction feature on. Some group shots of a birthday party had red eyed kids even with the red-eye reduction feature employed. This is common with point and shoot cameras having the flash close to the lens. It most likely places the flash right at eye level and increases the likelyhood of error in a group shot when there are numerous faces in different planes.

Overall the camera gives satisfactory images but because of its sluggish performance misses the whole concept of point and shooting. I do much better with my manual focus Minolta X-700 and with not much more effort.

Bottom Line? Use the Canon Sure Shot 105 Zoom for outdoor shooting on vacation or scenics, especially when shots can be posed. This camera can be bested by many others in it's class. I recommend looking at the competition before spending $150 on this unit. Our old Minolta Freedom Dual AF did a much better job of point and shooting on 14 year old technology.

Point and shoot cameras are a compromise between ultimate image quality and ease of use. It's up to the photographer to decide which make and model best suits their personal style.

Strength:

Compact size

Weakness:

Shutter very slow to fire, inconsistent results

This camera has the most annoyingly slow shutter of any any point and shoot camera that I have used. You have to press half way to focus (which it does rather slowly) and there is a lag between when you press down all the way and when the camera fires. The picture image sharpness is average to below average. Every once in a while, some shots would be incorrectly exposed. Attempted to ask questions using the website and received no response and had to call customer service. Initial contact was extremely poor since they tried to contribute everything to user error and they were rude. Had to insist in dealing with the supervisor. Sent camera in for testing and proved that metering mechanism was defective. Would not purchase Canon again.

Customer Service

The online website was basically useless. Initial contact with customer service was poor, needed to resolve issues with the supervisor.

Model Reviewed: Sure Shot 105 Zoom

Strength:

Initially seemed a good value of the money.
Zoom 105 at $179/- is unbeatable.

Weakness:

After taking a picture you have to wait around 3-4 seconds for the flash to charge up before taking another picture!!
That's unacceptable from Canon, I mean I just love my ElanII but I returned this camera for an Olympus Epic zoom 80 and I just love
the camera.

If you need to take pictures rapidly, this camera is useless. To me it seems like a design problem, because to wait 3-4 seconds for the flash to recharge is unheard of in this modern age of hi-tech equipments.

Customer Service

Did not need it !! Returned the camera the very next day for an Olympus Epic zoom 80 QD.

Reasonable price, good zoom range, red-eye reduction, and easy to use.

Weakness:

No problems

We absolutely love this camera. We looked around and many different kinds in this same price range and this camera was by far the best camera with the most features for the money. I love the 3x zoom- I can snap my kids from far away before they even notice I have the camera out. The pictures always come back very bright and clear, some of the best pictues I've ever seen. Also very easy to use.
