Bender 4x5 Kit
Strength:
The price and the amount of movement are excellent. It is also an attractive and lightweight camera that you can customize.
Weakness:
The focus is adjusted by sliding the front or rear standard, as opposed to a focus knob, but I got used to it. You have to build it yourself, but the directions are very explicit, so with time (about two weeks) and patience you can build a nice camera. I worry about it's durability, but I haven't had any problems yet. A decent camera at a great price. With the camera being so cheap, you can spend the money on a great lens. If you are good at following directions, and you want to save money, you should consider buying this camera. I have taken photos with this camera that look as good as the ones I took with a friend's Toyo. After all it is the lens that makes the photograph sharp. Strength:
A very lightweight camera with enough flexibility, interchangeable bellows allows the unpleated WA bellows, and by replacing the standard rail with a long one it can use long-focus lenses or for extreme close-up work.
Weakness:
The mechanism for attaching the bellows to the front and rear standards can be a little better, but for one building this kit camera it would be easy to upgrade if deemed necessary. If you cannot build a fully functioning camera out of this kit you are probably not cut out for large-format photography, but for an experienced photographer this still is a very functional, abeit "primitive" camera.
