Strength:

crisp, clear picture quality
ease of use
true vivid colors

Weakness:

lot of red eye

Very happy with the picture quality of this camera. It is definately worth the money. My local camera dealer gave me a tip about red eye in--he told me to place a piece of scotch tape over the flash to mute it some. I haven't tried it yet but I hope it works. I had a Pentax Efina T prior and it was terrible with some blurry pictures. The worst part was the distortion of color with the Pentax.

Strength:

Picture quality is very good. Reds come out best.
Small and compact.

Weakness:

Case and strap. Case is a little "easier" to use after time, but using the case and strap togther is nearly impossible.
A little bit pricey.

A great little camera for those willing to pay a little more. Considering the small supply prices shouldn't get too low. It's very small and fits well in a pocket.

Customer Service

Film got stuck on the second roll. Sent it in for service. Very easy and painless. Took about a month to get the camera back. Under warranty so everything was free.

Rollei just sent me a new camera. This was great service on a Year old camera. After shooting afew rolls with the Rollei next to my other small cameras it was obvious that I still could not get sharness from the Rollei. It's hard to understand why a german lens in camera with all the best features takes fussy pictures.

Service is the best.Had bad case and broken wrist strap replaced within afew days.Sent camera back to fix sharpness and got back promptly.

I purchased the Rolli at Christmas after reading other reviews on this page so I thought I ought to add my own views.
The camera has had a fair bit on use in various lighting conditions and has produced high quality reliable results. The grain starts to show on enlargements but what to you expect from such small negatives. The only thing you have to bear in mind is the flash only really works if you don’t zoom so try and get as near to the subject as you can.

Other than that a great little camera well worth buying.

Strength:

Compact design. A professional photographer mentioned to use only 100 ASA outdoors and 400 ASA indoors or at night whether using 35 mm or APS cameras. Results for the 200 and 400 films where great but for some reason I was not impressed with the 100 ASA prints. I have all my prints in glossy, since I prefer the texture better than matte. 100 ASA film is hard to find, at least in NE Florida. I haven't tried the new 800 ASA film yet and am currently on a black & white roll.

A review mentioned the cases zipper tore. When shopping for this camera, I anticipated receiving a case for the camera that would allow spare film and an extra battery. However, the case is more like a glove. It fits snug and now I actually prefer it since the camera is so small, even with the "glove" case that it easily fits in my shirt or pants pocket. The case protects the camera from dust getting intrusion.

The red-eye reduction is very good. It is a separate from the flash, white led light that is a mild 1 sec. flash. For the record, the best red eye reduction method is on one of my 35 mm cameras that uses a red led light. Stay away from cameras that use the flash as a pre-flash for red eye reduction. I have never had good results with them.

All controls are in perfect ergonomic locations, especially the zoom and format controls.

The zoom range of up to 80 mm is just right. You can't find many APS cameras beyond 90 mm but that's OK. My Nikon went to 120 but when zoomed all the way out, especially in Panoramic setting, the results were poor. The lense of the camera is top-of-the-line.

Weakness:

Diopter adjustment uses a wheel, which allows plenty of adjustment, but all adjustments are a little blurry -- as mentioned by another reviewer. I have trifocal lenses, and a good diopter adjustment is a must.

Even though the camera costs more than most APS ones out there, the quality of prints using 200 and 400 ASA speed film is as good, if not better, than any quality 35 mm point-and-shoot camera on the market. When I first got the camera, I took shots with it and my best 35 mm, both with 200 speed film, shooting the same subjects at the same location, lighting, zoom range, etc. to compare the results. Exactly the same. Indoors, flesh tones came out a little lighter and brighter -- just the way I prefer.

The mid-roll change feature of APS is great. I swapped between 100, 200, and 400 films constantly while on vacation this summer. The format choices had better results than with my Nikon.

I would definately buy this camera again.

Customer Service

Strength:

Small Size, Date printing on the back of the print; though it is not unique to this camera.
Quiet to take a picture with
Good exposure system
Mid-roll Change(MRC)

Weakness:

Viewfinder’s diopter will not keep it’s focus after it is set. To my surprise, Rollei says that this is the way it is designed.

Pictures are not sharp; even after two repairs and one replacement.

Noisy upon rewind and loading

Do you like the devil? Well get ready to see lots of redeye if you use 100 speed film. (A lot less with 200 speed and gone with the use of 400 speed film).

I tried to like this camera; I really did. 95 % of the pictures turned out soft.

Picture this: Bali – Rice patties – Early morning sunlight behind me - Camera set low to the ground – light was even. Nothing was close to the camera and it was set at it’s widest zoom setting. Basically an easy infinity shot. Well this picture was so soft in focus that I had to take it, along with other bad photos, to B&H where I purchased this camera. After some grilling questions and consulting with some in–store experts, they agreed that my results where unacceptable. The results were so unacceptable that they took back the camera and issued a store credit to me for a camera that was purchased in February. HELLO, it was July. Hurray for B&H!!!

I would recommend this camera to Mr. Magoo or anyone else who is legally blind. Okay, all joking aside, IF YOU DO BUY THIS CAMERA, TAKE SAMPLE ROLLS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND CHECK THE RESULTS.
Also check the diopter adjustment to see if it is to your liking (Remember, zoom all the way out to “tele” and then make your adjustment).

Hurray for B&H!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Customer Service

Good service. Rollei does not repair their point-and-shoots. They send them to a place called Chris Camera (Chriscam.com). If you need a repair for most any camera, I would highly recommend them. Rollei will soon have a repair facility of their own.

Rollei’s own people were a bit condescending when talking about the capabilities of this camera and why I should be satisfied with it.

Model Reviewed: Nano 80

Strength:

The camera takes excellent snapshots and is extremely convenient. It is small enough to stuff into a pocket of my jeans, but is still easy to hold. The flash range is excellent and the bright LED used to reduce red eye seems to be more effective than the flickering flash style to which I have been accustomed. The lens is reasonably "fast" when I don't zoom (f4.0). The continuous zoom to 80mm has allowed me to get great candid shots of my kids. The camera turn-on and focus are quick. Focus is accurate.

Weakness:

The zipper on the leather case, and the wrist strap both broke - but they probably were my fault - a little rough treatment.

I bought the camera for my wife and she loves it.

Customer Service

Damaged case and wrist strap both replaced under warrantee without cost or question. Prior to purchase, I was afraid that I might be paying a premium for the Rollei name - and get a Samsung product (Samsung owns Rollei). I called, and was able to speak with the US product manager at Rollei (who, with a convincing German accent assured me that it is a real Rollei product - including verifying that lenses are made and coated by Rollei in Germany).

Model Reviewed: Nano 80

Strength:

Neat design, well laid out and simple to use controls. Easy to handle as not too small – but can still fit in your jacket pocket. Quality build and Rollei lens. Pictures are sharp across the frame, even at panoramic setting. Good colour contrast and saturation.

Weakness:

A few exposure problems on first roll taken. This could be due to me getting used to the spot-metering (focuses on a very small area of the subject), and/or the fact that the pictures were taken on a bright but overcast day. However, have had some great hand-held shots of stain-glass indoors using 200 ASA film, as well as of winter and summer landscapes in difficult conditions.

The best APS camera I have used, despite being a little on the expensive side. One that finally combines the features (eg. mid-roll change) and convenience I require, with the picture quality I had been used to when using an old Nikon 35AF.

The Nano 80 makes very sharp pictures and is worth its money. The panorama pictures are very sharp. This is the best APS that i have tried and i tried every APS in the shop :-) I think it is better to spend a little more money on a good camera than go for the cheap ones. APS is great for snap-shots
