Strength:

APS film loading is very easy.

Weakness:

Zoom broke 3 hours after buying.
Camera won't allow you to take a picture if not in focus. Slow flash renewal rate.

After 3 wks of researching cameras, I bought this not-cheap Vectis 40. Not 3 hours after buying it, the zoom broke! I'm bringing it back and exchanging it for a Canon, or Olympus! And remember, Ritz won't give you your money back right away, they make you wait 30 days for your check!

Customer Service

purchased from Ritz Camera...ok.

Strength:

Very easy to use.

Weakness:

Focusing in zoom mode.

I recently purchased this camera and took 150 pictures with it on my vacation. Wow! This is a great camera. I used the zoom extensively as this was the primary reason I selected this camera. 99% of my shots came out very good which for a complete novice surprised me. You do need to hold the camera very still when you are using the zoom or you will get a slight blurring effect. I think the fill flash really improved a lot of my shots. I used the flower mode in a garden I visited and the shots looked like professional photos. APS film does cost more to develop but this camera is the real deal.

Size, long zoom

Weakness:

Sent back for service twice for the same problem..a bad on/off switch. Now, out of warranty, the switch is bad again. This time its a $150 repair fee. The camera is not worth it. Too unreliable--its in teh trash. Will not but another Minolta vetris and am not likely to buy any minolta again.

Never again.. Will get the Nikon 1601

Customer Service

VERY slow--10 weeks for the first repair.

Strength:

Lots of features.
Splash proof.
Good zoom.
Mid roll replcement feature.

Weakness:

Some exposure problems, could be my in-experience though.

I like this camera and all of it's features. I've found that you need to use a tripod with the zoom or your pictures can be blurry. I also think that a camera this expensive should come with a lens cap. Other than that, the camera is great!

Strength:

Nice color saturation, great pictures in HDTV mode. Cheap price due to an overstock in AAFES.

Weakness:

Grainy panaramic pictures. Pictures not as good as a 35mm in the same class. Zoom seems to be lower than 120mm specs.

For the price I paid it was worth it for the features that this camera offers. I would not pay over $200 for this camera. The index features and the color saturation are the primary bonus of the APS format. Do to the 24mm film size it will never approach the quality of 35mm. great for first time camera users.

Easy of use
Powerfull Zoom
Clear viewfinder
Lots of titles
Great LCD

Weakness:

Size
Redeye reduction method

This is a great, great camera. Easy to use, lots of features and titles. The thing that i like the most is the zoom. Clear pictures (no matter what they say about the panoramic ones). A little bit big and heavy and the 5 flashes it uses to make the Red Eye Reduction before the photo make people get confused. If you don't have it, buy it. you won't get a more powerfull zoom in a APS camera for this price.

Strength:

Easy to use point and shoot with a great zoom. Versatile camera that delivers consistent results in most conditions.
I like the size and layout of the controls.

Weakness:

Read the other reviews and you will see the pattern - battery door latch broken, the zoom fails and body plastic chips and cracks. I know 3 other users with the same problems.

Red eye reduction does not always work.

I still think this is a great camera, even if a bit expensive. We have many great shots and memories from trips to Europe and US. Probably about 95% success rate with about 3000 shots over 4 years. Any bad shots are usually caused by inattentive operator (me).

There is obviously a fault with the zoom. You can live with the rest but the zoom problem means the camera eventually just refuses to take a photo and just shuts down when you press the shutter release.

My wife loves the APS format and I like SLR so we might look at the Nikon Pronera as a compromise or she may just go and buy the Olympus 75 zoom. I will have to check out the reviews.

With better customer service or a reliable zoom I would give it a five star rating and not even look at another camera.

Customer Service

Minolta in Australia not interested in discussing compromise deals on repairs. Quoted price to fix zoom is A$450, USD $230. Will not guarantee repairs more than three months or give some assurance the problem has been identified and fixed.

The camera produces incredibly rich colors. It's ease of use is rivaled only by the many features it contains. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone who asked.

Weakness:

The performance of the camera has been flawless.

The Vectis is a great camera.

Weakness:

I've had the camera for about a year, with just occasional use, and now the catch for the battery case has broken. The "aluminum" finish has rubbed off in many places. Photo quality mediocre. Overall, I'd say this is a poor choice. I would definitely not buy this again, given the chance.

Again, I would definitely NOT recommend this camera: poor construction, poor quality photos.

Strength:

This camera has lots of featurs that I really like. The zoom is more than adaquate for casual photography. My pictures are always sharpa and clear. The color is GREAT. We've had a LOT of fun with this camera. I never leave home without it!

Weakness:

Had a piece that broke on the film door but it was covered under warranty.

The bottom line is that I LOVE THIS CAMERA. I got it for Christmas last year and don't think a day has gone by since then that I haven't had it within grabbing distance. I have a 2 year old and I love documenting her life with it! I'd recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone who isn't a pro but wants their snapshots to look as if they are!! :)

Customer Service

Had to send the camera in for service to have the film door fixed. They were quick and there were no problems with the service. The only thing that I would have preferred was that a local repair facility could have easily handled my problem. However, since the until was still under warranty it had to be send into Minolta for service.
