Strength:

Price vs. features DOF Preview Multi Exposure Auto Bracketing adjustable in 0.5EV steps 6 "Dummy" Auto Picture Modes Choose leader in or retracted when rewinding. 6 segment metering for dead-on exposures Spot AF, Spot metering available.

Weakness:

No Mirror Pre-Lock One of a kind Bulb attachment = $35 Flash pop-up button location awkward (rear).

Great Product. I've been using my SF10 for over 10 years and was longing for 'anti red-eye', DOF preview, bracketing, and Multi-exposure without paying a ridiculous price. It used to be that you had to pay over $500 to get this on an SLR camera. As an added bonus, the program modes work great so even my spouse can take great pix in auto mode. Can choose 'leader in' or 'leader retracted' when rewinding film. I like this so if I am going to take another camera (point/shoot) on a trip I just rewind the half-used roll and load it into another camera. I was bummed, though, when I tried to plug in my Cable Release F bulb attachment - not compatible :(

Strength:

Excellent metering. Very good built in flash . Fairly quick and very accurate focusing. Usefull program and manual modes. Almost every feature found in higher priced so called professional cameras. Wide choice of usable lenses . Accurate exposures and flash. Very user friendly. Wide choice of shooting options.

Weakness:

Horrible owners manual . Not the english which is bad but the layout and ridiculous contradictions and errors. Anyone with limited experience in photography would be totally frustrated with this absurd owners manual. Pentax owes the consumer an apology for this. It's like they just threw it out at the public with no regard as to contents. It's not fair for the consumer.

Excellent camera with many usuable features that are fairly simple to learn and use effectively. Relatively small and light with controls well placed for convenient access. Suited for from beginner to advanced amateur and perhaps some professionals.Shot 2 rolls of 400 speed film using most of the features and in many different situations. 95% satisfaction .

Strength:

* AE - Lock * Pentax functions * Depth of field preview * Spot AF * Auto picture modes

Weakness:

* Sometimes AF is a bit slow after auto pop up of the flash * The night time auto picture mode * The cable release (costs 20% of the camera price!!!!!!)

I read countless reviews on this product, and they all seemed different! i have been using pentax SLRs for nearly 4 years now, and have never had half the problems that the magazines say exist! I think that many photographers look down on Pentax because they offer a really good range of beginner SLR with a price tag to match. The MZ6 is a brilliant little camera. really good for a casual snapper like me! It has some nice auto picture modes, although the night time one doesnt work too well! The camera is well thought out - depth of field preview, AE-L, spot AF and exposure compensation buttons all within where ones fingers would naturally fall. Pentax functions are good also, allowing one to set up the camera as one wants! I especially liked how there was the option upon rewinding the film, if one wanted it ewound all the way back into the cartridge or not!! Nice weight too!

Customer Service

Not needed with this camera. Jessops always give outstanding customer service, and so do pentax (had a lens damaged - was repaired and sent back to me within a fortnight)

Strength:

* Spotmeter and 6 segment multi-metering system * Build quality * 11 Custom Functions (in Pentax lingo, Pentax Functions) * Depth-of-field Preview * 1/4000 sec. shutter * 1/125 sec flash sync * High speed sync/wireless control with AF360FGZ flash (P-TTL) * Auto bracketing in .3, .5, .7 or 1 EV * Metal lens mount * Illuminated LCD panel * Spot AF (tho'' ability to choose each AF point would have been nicer) * Diopter adjustment

Weakness:

* No Centerweighted Average Metering * No Flash Exposure Bracketing * Battery Grip/Pack has no shutter like Canon R2K''s * AF points not indicated in viewfinder LCD * New cable release socket (means they''ll charge more the cable) * Terrible Manual - It''s all over the place. Standard Japanese/Enlgish. Yuck!

When I heard that Pentax was going to be releasing a new camera, I got very excited. Having owned and enjoyed their ZX-50, ZX-30 and ZX-7, I just knew that this new offering would be as capable as Pentax''s other cameras. And it is. Prodded by the intense competition in the entry-level SLR market and wanting (I''m sure) to keep competitive, Pentax has fired back with a new camera to go head-to-head with the likes of the Minolta Maxxum 5/ Canon EOS Rebel 2000/ Nikon N65/ Sigma 7. These are all excellent, feature-rich budget SLR models. I''m just amazed at the specifications that drip from this class of cameras. The ZX-L is based on the same chasis as all the other ZX models (except the new ZX-60). As build quality with the other cameras was very good, so is it with the L. The Auto Picture mode is mostly for beginners and for when you just want to hand the camera to someone to take your picture. It works a treat. But the illuminated Mode dial (which lights up and chases the picture mode icons around and beeps when you first turn on the camera) can thankfully be turned off. The six picture modes (Program, Portrait, Landscape, Close-Up, Action, and Night Scene) are easy to set with a twist of the Mode dial indicator and do their jobs without a fuss. The semi-automatic exposure modes, Shutter Priority and Aperture Priority accessed through the Mode dial as is the Metered Manual mode, are a breeze to set with the Mode dial. The LCD display on the top right hand side of the camera shows all important camera information (e.g., battery status, high-speed and wireless flash, PF functions, etc.) and even illuminates in low-light. So no need to tote along a flashlight for night shooting. The Spot/3-point AF lever is located on the right next to the viewfinder but there is no indication as to which mode is being used in the viewfinder LCD. The high-precision, high-speed phase-matching autofocus (SAFOX IV) is rather nippy and locks on tightly to its target with hardly any hunting or minor lens adjustments. The AE-L button on the back, right hand side of the camera (where your thumb falls naturally) is used to either spot meter or lock the exposure value (using evaluative metering). So what if you want to have spotmetering available at all times and still be able to lock exposure? Use PF-5 set to #1 will turn the AE-L button into the spotmeter lock and set PF-6 to
