This is truly a great SLR camera. It has lots of features with an EXTREMELY fast Auto Focus. Its exposure meters are amazing! MUCH better than the ones on the Rebel 2000. This is truly one of the best Intermediate-Level SLRs if not the best.
I highly recommend it. Even for a beginner.

This camera body is simply excellent. The build is extremely solid. The motor drive sounds very precise, it is accurate and fast too (2fps). The camera flash is adequate for nearly all types of photography. I opted to buy the better 28-70 f4 lens from pentax but dont like it that much. I went out and bought a used 50mm manual focus lens for $50 and it kills the zoom hands down. The zoom is sometimes convenient for auto focus and zooming features. The ease of use is extremely high on this body, backlit LCD display, remote capability, and many other features are excellently placed and function as they should.
Other than that, there isnt much to say about what kind of pictures it takes because that really depends on the skill and creativity of the photographer. I recommend it strongly just think about lenses cauce they are really what matters and pentax has some really crappy lenses. Do your homework and you will be fine. Once again, remarkable camera...

It is difficult to compare with other cameras, I haven't used them. But this camera satisfies me for 99%. It looks well-made comparing to Rebel 2000, and it significantly smaller than Elan II. When I ordered the camera over Internet, I knew all it's features and I expected to be 100% satisfied. It didn't deceived me. I got exactly what I expected.

Flash is a bit weak compared to other cameras in the same price range

Got mine with SIGMA 28-105 and 100-300 lens. Great camera. Good build quality, doesn't feel sluggish or like a toy in hands, (compared to the canon Eos)Tried the Minolta 404si, a bit too light and feels too plastic. Great features and very eay to use with the auto pic modes or u can have full user control in metered manual mode. Though the built in flash is a bit weak, but u can just get a flash gun to replace. Of course you can live with out a DOF button. There's also Panoramo mode, but you can always make your own...
for what you pay for, there's nothing more to SAY!!!^o^

Bought the camera in March for a trip to Angkor Wat in Cambodia. The photos were just fantastic. Got the camera with 28-200mm Tamron lens as a package. Some of the photos with the dark temple walls and sunlight behind came out very artistic and creative. Very happy with the results and can't wait to use it for next trip to Spain. I do think that the choice of lenses and film also make a marked difference in the way your shots turn out. Used 800 speed Fujifilm with great results.

Strength:

* Very fast and accurate autofocus
* Many different functions, which are easy to set and use
* Easy to load film
* Weights much less than others I have used
* Metal Bayonet!!!
* Has an adapter to Russian 42mm lenses, so MTO-1000 and Tair-3 can be used
* LCD panel with automatic ilumination in darkness
* Remote control
* Multiply frame shooting without a maximum amount of frames that can be shoot.
* Beep signal when in focus or timer set.
* 28-80mm lens coming with a SLR body when bought.
* Good viewfinder
* Many steps of shutter speed (like 1/180 s, 1/350s, 1/750/s) and stepless when automatic mode set.
* Very good handling
* Memory lock and exposure compensation
* Very good value switch

Weakness:

* Sometimes difficult to see an information panel in viewfinder when looking to direction of a very bright light
* Motor drive coud be a bit faster - ~4fps, but this one has only 2fps.
* Battery life is not so excelent as described in manual. Of course it depends on usage of flash and auto-focus.
* Unable to swith on and off any of focus points manually.
* DOES NOT HAVE CONTINUOUS AUTO FOCUS MODE, but its fast en good enough to live without it.
* Plastic body
* Pop-up flash is too week for this camera

A very good camera for beginners and professionals, especially for action-photographers. Easy to carry in trips, fligts, easy to use and set necessary funcion. And also its cheaper than similar made by other manufacturers.

A fine piece of equipment at a reasonable price. I had a choice of N70 or N65 but this camera was better than both of them. The N70 feels like a toy because slow auto focus, eat fast battery, bad LCD display and no multiple exposure. The N65 seems good but there is no manual ISO setting and no memory lock so i thought i'd stick to the ZX-7. With this camera the quality of the picture were great and the auto picture mode never dissapoint me. I'm using it with 28-70mm f/4, excellent.

Strength:

*Light Weight
*Illuminated LCD
*OK auto focus
*Picture modes for those who like point and shoot
*Wide auto focus point
*Metal lens mount

Weakness:

*PLASTIC - Everything in this body is plastic (aside from lens mount)
*Not sturdy at all
*No continuous auto focus
*Slow motor drive
*Plastic pressure plate
*No auto bracketing
*No electronic range finder for manual focusing
*That D*** pop-up flash goes up all the time when it isn't wanted
*No different metering options (matrix only)
*No single point auto focus

This camera isn't worth the money. The body is not very sturdy. I knocked the camera two feet from a coffee table and the lens pulled the metal lens mount off the camera (screws came right through the plastic on the body). The reason the body is so light is that it is made of almost all plastic.

I wish that they gave you the options of manual control over a lot of settings. There is not an option to switch to centre-weighted or spot metering. There is also not a way to switch to a single point AF. There is no continuos servo AF making it really bad for taking pictures of moving objects (e.g. sports). For about $40 LESS I got a Nikon F70 used in mint condition (only had a couple rolls of film through it). It would recommend doing that over the MZ-7 any day. It gives me a lot more control over my settings and has a better selection of lenses and accessories, all for a lower price.

The only good thing about this is the program modes. They are useful for when you don't want to have to think but they are not enough of a redeeming feature to give this a higher rating. If I wanted a P&S camera I would have bought one. My advice would be to go for something more sturdy and don't waist your money on this piece of plastic. Not for this price anyway.

Customer Service

Pretty Poor - took 7 weeks to get camera serviced, technical support people not very knowledgeable.
