Strength:

This camera is absolutely wonderful. It is a joy to use in both manual focus(macro) or auto focus. I have found that the metering is very accurate as is the servo auto focus. Hard to believe this is older Pentax technology. If the camera was any better I couldn't stand it. The film advance gives me a rush every time it winds. A precision instrument. Pentax scored with this one. Buy one new while you can! I think it is appropriate for the amateur as well as for the intermediate or pro photographer.

Weakness:

Absolutely none.

Most bang for the buck of ANY 35mm SLR on the market!

Customer Service

Quick to respond for literature requests. Have never needed any repairs.

Strength:

Hyper Manual mode, metering on the fly, very flexible popup flash

Weakness:

had trouble in cold weather camera would not operate at temps below 12F,tried several batteries.

Best value of any 35mm camera in it's price range.Previously owned 2 bodies. One was purchased new other used. Popup flash on new one quit working, Pentax expertly took care of problem , worked perfectly until I sold it last year.Dropped other one at Indy during F1 practice. Fell about 3 feet hit concrete did 225.00 in damage. After it hit concrete cracked plastic body could see circuitry inside. Camera still worked but only in Hyper Program mode.

Customer Service

good but slow.

Strength:

Well laid out controls far fast aperture and shutter speed switching.Perfect shape and fit makes quick manoevres a breeze. Unlimited number of useful features right at one's fingertips. No fiddling with cumbersome dials and levers. Unlike big Cans' and Niks'this camera gets on with the job without needíng an armoured camera bag to transport it in. combined with the right lenses this camera has it all. Spot on exposure and metering, easy access to everthing essential. No frills no 'waste of time extras', just GREAT Results - every time

Weakness:

Autofocus could be a tad better- and faster.SAFOX 2 system now showing its age. difficult to line up subjects accurately in subdued light.

Here's a camera that makes taking pictures a pleasure -roll after roll. It may not have look like much compared to the 'big bulge' F4 with winder - and few Canon EOS wanna be's will spend time asking what it is. But for sheer photo results any ZIP owner worth his/her negatives will be glad they saved all that money by buying this -and didn't waste it on a camera costing twice as much. Niks and Cans: Eat your heart out

Strength:

My previous camera body was the Pentax PZ70 and it was a workhorse. I Since bought the PZ1p and was amazed that the improvements did not take away from the simplicity and familiarity of the camera.
I felt i was still using my old system but with a few added perks!

This camera is now my main workhorse!

Weakness:

None.

The bottom line is that Pentax has built upon a system constantly improving yet by keeping the consumer in mind by keeping pricing in the moderate range!

Customer Service

Strength:

Fully featured, backwards compatibility with any K mount lens ever built. Reliable.

Weakness:

Only serviced once for broken flash pop up peg (broken) that holds the spring.

Very good and very capable. Only drawback so far is the use of rare 2CR5 battery which is difficult to find sometimes. AF is slow compared to todays standard, but far more accurate than some of the AF speed demons.

Customer Service

Very good service (by local authorized facility)

Strength:

Lots-o-features, low price. To get this many features in Nikon or Canon, much more money is shelled out. Great ergonomics, easy to read displays, MLU, spotmeter.

Weakness:

None.

I've had it for a short time, but it has served well and the meter is great. Don't listen to the top of this page where it says MSRP >$1000, street price is about $520 usd as of 8/19/99. Currently, it's the best value for the money. Lens selection is of high quality and numerous. It also takes those great K-mount lenses that are plentiful used.
