    Strength:

Stack of features considering purchase price Good weight - not too light Fast autofocus Very user friendly Great custom settings allowing a little flexibility Wide range of lenses available for it Nikon quality ( shame not made in Japan though - keeps the price low though being made in Thailand ) Quick selection of auto focus zones due to rear mounted selection switch

    Weakness:

Slow flash sync ( only 1/90th sec ) Slow continuous frames per second ( only 1.5 fps ) Auto/manual focus switch on front is in dicky position, hard to switch between Would rather it made in Japan than Thailand Can't change film speeds Can't use infared film ( not in any newer Nikon cameras that is )

I recently aquired a brand new N75 ( the American version of the F75 which is identicle ) and it's awesome. It fits well into my large hands ( although the actual right hand grip section could be abit fatter - like the F100 would be good ) and it's weight and balance is pretty well spot on. I have used an 80-200 2.8 AFS lense which became a little front/lens heavy but that's understandable, it happens on all models and cameras - be it Nikon or Canon or whoever. It has some great features for the " intermediate user " market like 12 custom settings, a focus area switch on the rear, auto exposure lock, red superimposing focus area display in the viewfinder - great for dimly lit situations and illuminated LCD ( on the N75 but not sure if the F75 is illuminated ). I purchased the optional MB-18 battery pack which I would defineately suggest to any new buyer as it allows you to use rechargable or even cheap throw away AA batteries ( very handy if you run out, pop into a service station or convenience store and wa-la )and also helps to make the camera feel more comfortable and better weighted in your hand. It also has a vertical shutter release button which is a very handy feature. I may've been persuaded to buy the next model up, the N80/F80, if it had the vertical shutter release ( which is doesn't, tight arse Nikon people ) as I shoot a lot of portraits and vertical waterfalls etc but it doesn't have that feature plus it's also more expensive to buy than the N75/F75. There are a couple of features it DOES LACK which I would like to see on it : like a higher flash sync speed ( only 1/90th - important for good daylight fill flash which wide open aperatures ), a faster " sports mode " continuous frames per second speed ( only 1.5 frames per second is very ordinary - great for photographing snails mating )which is a little slow for most sports situations and the ability to manually change your film speed as opposed to being automatically set by the camera. I suppose if I want all the above extra functions I will have to save up a bit more cash and buy an F100 or ultimately an F5......yep, one day. Oh yeah, and it's a real shame that none of the newer Nikons allow infared film to be used either, I would like to be able to shoot infared in my F65 or N75 but can't because of the infared sensor used in them for film/frame detection. Other than that, I love the F75/N75 model and would happily recommend it to beginners, intermediate users or even the full on pros who want a well priced and well featured back up body. Keep up the good work Nikon, cameras like this will certainly keep me using film.

    Strength:

price small light can use all the nikkor lenses Ease of use

    Weakness:

small light slow fps can't push or pull film

I received this camera as a gift after not having an SLR for several years. It is a great camera for starting out the first time or second. You can take it out of the box and get decent to very good snapshots with the auto modes. The metering and autofocus are excellent for most situations. When you want more control it is relatively easy to switch to manual. The autofocus is a little hard to use so i rarely do so. The matrix metering is so good that i typically shoot in program mode so that the camera does the metering and then i can choose the aperature/shutter speed combo that i want. But I've also gotten good shots using the spot meter and full manual and they are easy to use and accurate. The lens it comes with is okay and it is certainly possible to get good shots with it. I also purchased a used 75-300mm lens to complement the small zoom. Getting a good shot has more to do with your ability to see the shot and push the button at the right time than this camera's ability to capture it! For more advanced users the continuous FPS is a little slow, but i have yet to use that function so not a big deal for me. The film speed is selected automatically and there is no manual override, so you can't push or pull your film, again not too big a deal for me. The camera body is small and light, so if you're getting a big zoom or tele lens be sure it has a tripod mount. It is not as rugged as some of the pro bodies, but i like to shoot outdoors and have taken the camera on several long day hikes including a few at Yosemite, and no signs of malfunction. The pop-up flash is adequate, for basic close snapshots. Probably worth getting something you can bounce if you're going to do a lot of low light shots. But good for fill flash. Overall a great camera at a great price. More than adequate for most tasks. Makes it easy for you to concetrate on seeing and catching the good shots.

strong, a lot of feature, value for money

    Weakness:

i never get the right focus if i use the auto focus, the battery runs out fast if you use auto focus and flash all the time

I have been using Nikon products for the two years. My first camera was N 55. It was great, but sometimes there's an error with it. Last December I bough N 75 and I'm impressive with it. I have shot at least 30 rolls with it and most of the picture I get is good.

    Strength:

No camera issues with a wide array of film speeds. (I've used from 100 to 800) Crisp, clear shot with great color. Motion shots are outstanding. (I took a roll of film through a car window at 70mph, some of the best landscapes I've done so far.)

    Weakness:

Not really happy about how slow the slow shutter is, but that's more my hand than the camera.

I have to say that with all the cameras that were available to me when I decided to stop editing pictures and start taking the pictures myself, the Nikon series was the most recommended. I have not been dissapointed. I love this camera. I've only been using it for 4 months but I've run off a lot of pictures with it. When I first got it I was having trouble with low light situations, but now that I know the camera.....no problems anymore.

    Strength:

Very accurate metering Lightweight and quick autofocus Quick and accurate flash capabilities

    Weakness:

I don't want to drop it Two-tone apparently makes some people embarrassed. (Of course, I would rather have a camera get the shot then simply look like it should!)

I wanted to write a review for this camera because I simply cannot believe the quality of the shots that I consistently get. I have a N6006 that I use along side of the N75. I shoot a lot of black and white as well as color film. I have gotten so spoiled with the N75 that I often frustrated with my 6006. I will be pleasantly surprised when the 6006 takes a great shot but I am now shocked if the N75 misses ever. I know that a lot of people really like the older series and they are certainly more rugged but the quality of the photos are frankly no where near as good- at least for me. And I mean across the board- people, sports, outdoors. Very cool and creative stuff. I wish I had two N75s. This camera is incredible.

    Strength:

Lightweight, Close-up mode, easy to use.

    Weakness:

AF and auto mode in general.

I should really call myself a SLR beginner, but still, with all my respect to Nikon, its output wasn't pleasing after two first rolls of film. I bought it with Nikkor lens kit, knowing it's not the best lense in the world. I tested this camera in different modes with AF on. I just needed to see if I could trust it without switching to manual while making pictures fast. The first outcome was the worst pile of pictures I ever developed (and believe me, I usually use more than a dosen of rolls on my trips to Europe). The only pictures that came out nicely were the ones with Close-Up (portrait) mode. I mean the colors and depth were great, but I thought they might me a bit crispier. The second roll I tried was mostly outdoor shooting on a sunny day. Surprisingly enough, the outcome was almost the same. The scenery pictures were not sharp at all, too much contrast in the faces, etc. In a couple of night ones, flash proved not to be this camera's strength either. The finale seems obvious to me: 30-day Best Buy Return Policy is a winner. The verdict is that you shouldn't expect smooth switch from point'n'shoot to SLRs if you're planning to take pictures mostly in Auto mode.

Excellent camera, great photos.Super fast metering system and focus. The only downside is the lens it comes with, it is not as sharp as other nikon lenses. So I upgraded to the F4-F5.6 300mm.

WOW what a camera, you know that everytime your put your hands on a nikon slr, your know your going to get quality pictures, This camera has everything to offer. Shutter Priority, Aperature priority, plus more, takes up to 4 frames a second when using the action function, easy to use with one hand, auto focus is very fast. This is just a great camera, Flash sits higher than most other slr cameras i have looked at. Highly durable, small and light. And has a METAL LENS MOUNT, this is very important to me.

-25 segment 3D matrix (!) -Ease of use and handling. -Good auto focus. -Lightness -Quite a looker. -Vertical relaese on MB-18 grip. -Remote control avaliable

    Weakness:

-Only 1.5 fps (Only any good if you realy need it) -Poor veiw-finder info compared to F80 -Pricey CR2 batteries (get battery pack) -Only one command dail, unlike F80

I am a begginer and find that the F75 (N75) to be excelent for my ability, being easy to pick up and use, god results are only a click away! Might even be better than the F80, definatley better than the F65. 25 segment 3D matrix blows me away! Tip top handling.

    Strength:

Works the same way as the F100 & F80 (unlike F65). Focussing zone selection is actually better - on full auto it shows which zone is selected. Light weight, compact, quiet, very accurate exposure (better than F65).

    Weakness:

Image in the viewfinder is rather small. I find I'm straining to see detail of what I'm taking. Flash sync speed is only 1/90 but I have the F100 if I'm going to use flash.

The F75 is my "throw-away" camera to complement my F100 & F80 in risky situations. I had a F65 before but I far prefer the F75. It's a full-function SLR for incredibly little money.
