Strength:

Highly refined ergonomics. Joy to hold if a bit heavy. High performance shutter, meter, AF, etc. Super reliable and durable like other Nikon F series bodies. Great camera when I want the camera to do all the thinking so I can concentrate on the photo. More computer power than anything except and EOS-1v or 3. Use in any weather or temperture (to the limits of lithium batteries)

Weakness:

Heavy. Reverts to F3 level features with AIS lenses. Different control layout and feel than previous F series cameras. More akin to an EOS-1n but feels solid.

Great computerized AF workhorse camera. Easy to hold. Negates weight a little. Stick with AF-D and AF-S Nikkors. Save your AI/AIS glass for previous F series cameras.

Strength:

Reliability in all aspects. Color meter unsurpassed. Fast and accurate. Handling is better than any other camera I've tried. Ruggedness. Removable prism for cleaning/changing screens.

Weakness:

Heavy.

The best camera I have ever owned or used in 25 years. It's not that expensive considering what you'll save on film, (no bad exposures), and it's not too heavy that you'll leave it at home.

Customer Service

Haven't need to use service for my cameras, very reliable.

Weakness:

Cant set shutter seped intervals

DO NOT USE ALKALINES (liths OK)

Would buy another tomorrow as a second body if I could afford it.
If you want to expand your abilities then it will give you everything you ask of it and more. But still superb in point and shoot if your feeling lazy

Strength:

REMOVABLE PRISM, compatibility with non-AF lenses, superb flash control, good handling. Nikon AF lenses have aperture ring, Canon Af do not.

Weakness:

E (grid) screen unavailale with electronic indicators.

i played with the EOS-1v at PMA 2000 - no great thrill there. Good to see Canon using metal again. Will you get better pictures at 9 fps EOS-1v w/ booster) than 8 fps (F5)? Not likely. Have used F5s for over 2 years – extremely rugged.

Customer Service

Nikon Professional Service outstanding but very exclusive

The camera to beat until Canon came out with the Eos-3 and Eos-1 V. Could have been better designed. Nikon only has seven AFS lenses that cost the earth. Canon is a much better complete system

Strength:

Strong, reliable, accurate,3d metering is dead on. Film advance is fast. The weight is an asset, you can hand hold the camera at very low shutter speeds. You can use the camera like a point and shoot or you can control every aspect of shooting. The focusing in very fast and dead on.

Weakness:

The manual.

A great 35mm camera for the serious shooter. Built to last and provide the tool for those who can shoot. A real work horse, reliable and even tempered.

Customer Service

Camera has been in service two years without need of customer service.

Strength:

nice step up from the F4s...it has a fantantic balance in your hand...LOVE the heavy weight(seems like i'm the only one ;) )-->gives me great stability and the idea that i'm holding something solid...everything on the camera seems VERY logic and easy 2 use

Weakness:

little problems (that come with the abuse it gets from being a nature photographer's camera)...nothing big yet

a really nice camera with a few bad aspects (like every camera on the market 2day)...i HOPE it is as durable as my trusty F4s...like all the 'F' camera's from nikon, it's a great tool 2 help you make better pictures (nothing more, nothing less)

Customer Service

no need 2, so far i could fix everything myself...

Strength:

Many feature, and rugged

Weakness:

None

Great camera for a beginner who expects to really get into Photography. It's a great prof. camera with all the tools anyone will ever need. Yes it is little have, but all good serious equipment does, in any field. I have given Canon a chance, but they are to plastic and feel that their flash system and metering is no as good as nikon. Canon is a good company and make good camera's but Nikon has as an edge. Canon use to have an edge with their USM lens, but Nikon now has AF-s and has pass Canon on every level. I prefer Nikon especially the F5 because I know that 25 years from now i will still be able to depend on my F5 it will have all the tools I will ever need.

Customer Service

They have been great, no problems, answered all my questions

Strength:

The camera is well engineered and was the natural progression of cameras within the Nikon Range when it came to replacing my 15 year old FE2

Weakness:

Weight and my initial unfamilarity with push button controls. Propensity of the 8 fps film advance to go off on an inadvertent run. Non-UK sourced SB28 has proven slightly problematical exposure wise (my 14 year old SB-15 was producing more consistent flash results)

I greatly enjoyed buying my F5, regrettably, it did not carry on the full functionality of my Nikon AIS lenses but I had delayed the purchase of my new Nikon through the life of the F4 and so only have myself to blame. The camera itself, whilst relatively heavy, is well built, sturdy, crisp in operation and fast and accurate. The 8 frame per second motordrive still blows my mind. It will show it's 1996 vintage against newcomers like the EOS 3, Nikon F100 and the Dynax 9 on AF and perhaps metering but as a system camera it is perhaps the best camera of it's kind in production (I must admit, even against the simpler EOS-1n).

Customer Service

UK customer service has always been excellent. Nikon professional repair service is particularly good in comparison to Canon UK's servicing of our Canon camera.
