Strength:

Built like a tank. This camera can handle anything you can throw at it. It has been in 10 degrees below and at 116 above and never faltered. It has been banged and dropped(not recommended) and keeps on clicking away.

Weakness:

None

This is a camera that is not for everyone. It is heavy, rugged and needs great glass to perform at its best. When matched up to my 28-70 AF-s and 80-200AF-S this camera can not be beat. I have tried many and when it was time for a second body went right back to the F5. Now.. if one should ever fail.. I have a second to keep right on clicking away with. 5 thumbs up!!

Strength:

Solid, very stable handling. Very consistent exposure.

Weakness:

Quite heavy, rubber grip wraps should be improved

Owning an F5 is simply wonderful and i don't think i'll ever consider switching to Canon. I've been into photography for a short time yet but I've improved vastly! The fetures of the camera seems to force you to improve your skills-most especially composing. The F5 helps me concentrate on composition while he takes care of the proper exposure and focusing. Focusing is extremely accurate, it helps me capture a very fast subject without any worries of error. Adjusting for depth of field is very easy even if you don't have much time, believe me, you can be very flexible with the F5! FANTASTIC!

Customer Service

Very, very bad! I believe that buying an F5 should give you special treatment for service and inquiries. I have never needed servicing but the service center really sucks! It's a good thing that i'm confident enough that i'll never need them!

Strength:

Extremely well-made
Superb 3D Color matrix metering
Variable center-weighted metering
8 FPS w/predicative AF
Interchangeable finders
Smooth operation and handling
Too much to list!

Weakness:

A little heavy when hanging around your neck. I solved this by getting a wide neoprene Tamrac strap.

This camera is simply awesome. The precision feel of the switches, buttons and dials, the balance, the handling, and of course the beautiful images! It just makes you want to take more pictures and improve your photography. And that's the bottom line of this hobby!
Highly recomended.

Strength:

Ruggedly built with space age materials. Sturdy and yet designed for the professional in mind. A lot of camera fior the faint of heart.

Weakness:

The black outlined AF indicators that are evident in the view finder are extremely difficult to see in low light situations. It would be nice if it could be retro fitted by NIKON Factory to glow red like the AF indicators on the NIKON F100. Price was aconsiderable factor, but you get what you pay for, to get somthing that will last. You must shop around for the best price but at the same time only considering authorized NIKON DEALERS. Those imported or gray market dealers will promise you the moon and deliver considerably less.

This has got to be the best NIKON camera I've ever used. Pricey well worth it. Can't wait until the prices on the D1's go down in time so that I can manage to compliment my exsisting NIKON fleet.

Customer Service

Haven't required it as of yet but one of the service reps at 1800-NIKON-US really needs a lesson in Q & A. (Quality & Assurance)

Strength:

Rock Solid
Very integrated

Weakness:

Weakness is eventually this will be replaced by a F6... or a D?...

After owning the F100 for a yr or so, I finally went for the F5. so the F100 is newer, and is a great camera by any measure. The one noticeable difference is the F5 seems much more 'integrated' and better balanced then the F100 with the MB-15. F5's Viewfinder might be a tad better, but F100's red focusing bracket is a definite plus. But I am ok with the black brackets in F5... since I am used to a 'split image' focusing screen anywy, with no brackets.
I also got the Photo Secretary software and the Multi Function Databack! I think Nikon should bundle the software in all the PRO SLRs!

Customer Service

Always been good.

Strength:

Superbly balanced, feels great in my hands.

3D matrix metering is excellent

Nikon quality....enough said.

Weakness:

I am another one wishing the red brackets like the F100 were used with the F5

What an incredible camera. Easy to use, and lets you worry about composing your picture than setting the camera up. I wouldn't trade mine for anything.

Customer Service

I sent them an email asking where I could get the cap covers for the front and back. People are selling them on ebay all day long for $10. Nikon is sending them to me for ZERO. Nobody sends something for nothing anymore!!!!!

Strength:

Accomadates my other Nikon lenses. Rock solid for a camera that will do so much.

Weakness:

The metering gets stupid in low light situations and usually underexposes. Burns through the batteries. I wish that it didn't weigh so much.

Great camera

Strength:

Really ,too much to list ! The whole camera is a work of art !

Weakness:

Low light sometimes for the auto focus. Also the darn shutter button on the bottom keeps unlocking & I have alot of unwanted pictures. Also I put on the extened eye peice & it gets in the way of the film door. The DK-2.

This camera was made in 1996 and nothing has passed it as far as what you can do with it ! I love this camera . I will sell my eos-1v ! I only wish Nikon would come up with more 2.8 lenes ! Like a 28-300 2.8 ! Or maybe a 18-85 2.8 . I would be in heaven !!!

Customer Service

Very-very good. I had to get my camera programed to rewind mid-roll. It cost me $30.00. Not-bad !! Works great .

Strength:

Well thought out controls for the landscape photographer. Mirror lock up and double exposure available. 3D color matrix meter is excellent. This camera is head and shoulders above anything I have ever used. The EOS-3 is also excellent but the Nikon viewfinder is vastly superior due to it's hight eyepoint. 2 thumbs up for the excellent autofocus system, good placement of the five sensors, dynamic autofocus works well. In comparing to the EOS-3, there is much greater control over the Nikon autofocus, 45 sensors are too much in the Eos. Lastly, it is a piece of art to hold and handle this camera.

Weakness:

Heavy, but get the new Nikon wide strap (neoprene?), to reduce the apparent weight.

Combine this camera with the new Nikon Scanners and this will run circles around any digital camera.
