Strength:

Solid construction. Focusing speed is very fast.

Weakness:

Remote control shutter release is expensive. Unlike the F80, where a cable release can do the job.

I bought this unit second hand at a bargain price. Very happy with it. I have used several Nikon camera over the years, my first Nikon camera (Nikkormat) was pass down onto me from my father. Still uses the old Nikkormat occasionally, still takes great pictures with it. I like Nikon camera for the simple reason that they are easy to use. My first AF camera was a F50, and I did spent some time to read the instruction. Afterward, when I buy the second body, F60 that they are so similiar that I don't have to read the instruction. Then came the F80, again everything just so "Nikon", and finally F100, the bigger version of F80. I read the instruction on F100 and after 10 minutes I was off to shoot the first roll of film. The focusing speed is very fast compare the rest of machine in my air-tight sandwich box. The solid feel of the camera is very nice, and it balance very well with my F2.8 tele lens, and 135 DC lens. I have used a friend's F5 before, and I can honestly says the Focusing screen is much brighter in F100 than F5. I would highly recommended this camera to any serious photographer wanting a reliable, and strong camera. Go get one rather than a F5.

Customer Service

Not needed so far for my F100. But generally New Zealand Nikon service center is fast and friendly.

Strength:

fast auto focus, great built in meters, camera build(solid!!!), and price.

Weakness:

none that I have found.

A camera that nearly matches the quality of the F5 for about a $1000 less, how can I complain. I have nothing but positive experiences with this camera.

Strength:

Metering is spot on in most situations. Rather ergonomical designed. Uses AAs even without the MB-15. Quite compact when compared to equivalent e.g. EOS 3.

Weakness:

The ribber skin on my F100 started peeling off after 2 months of usage.(I would expect them to stay on a bit longer). Body paint starts to chip off. Film door develops play after 1 month. Battery life.(I can get at most 15 rolls out of 6 alkalines using the MB-15).

I got the F100 back in May and has had about just under 100 rolls of film through it. Decent and capable camera. With the F100, I now have access to a whole series of lenses in my uni. tech services department.

Customer Service

Melbourne's Nikon repair center is shame to the industry. I send my stuff directly to Nikon Australia in Sydney now.

Strength:

exellent metering in all aspects, very rugged looking, perpectly to GRIP!

Weakness:

SO FAR NONE.

I owned eos555,minolta700si but sold them after a few months then bought this f-100 recently due to its positive remarks.Oh boy!i was very impressed with its matrix metering!it all gave flawless result which i didn't got from canon and minolta. Be it on program and auto mode it will never let you down.Autofocus is second to none! try shooting in aperture priority mode and you will never go wrong.pair it with SB-28 flash you will have professional looking pictures!

Customer Service

Strength:

Great shots on automatic modes(program, matrix...)

Weakness:

Broke down after 9 months of minimal to easy use ( ie a trip and some family get together stuff)

A little hard to figure out at first. I took this with no experience to England and only got so so photos. Problems with over and under exposure. Finally I stopped trying to adjust all the buttons and knobs. I let the camera do all the work on matrix metering and flash (SB27) and everything turned out great. After 9 months, however, my autofocus stopped working. I'm very carefull with the camera: no drops, never to the coast or even close to water... Hard to know why. I used the N80 for several weeks prior to the F100. The N80 is a very nice camera. I changed only for the faster autofocusing especially at lower light situations. Again, the N80 is very nice and should work for most people. I also got the F100 for its increased touoghness and theoretical chance of not breaking down. Oh well. Bad luck?

Customer Service

We'll see. It's at the local store now to see if they can figure out the loss of auto focus.

Strength:

Intuitive functions, great metering, solid and compact body

Weakness:

Would have liked a more solid film door.

Started with this camera, became envious of the F5 and bought one.Sold the F5 after one month and went back to the F100.The latter feels "cleaner" and offers lighter weight due to lack of functions I can easily live without. Much more likely to take it with me places, than the F5. Simply sweet to handle. (I previously shot with M6's)

Strength:

Backward compatibility and Matrix metering

Weakness:

No mirror lockup. Dust can find its way into the film chamber.

Magnificiently balanced feel and build in comparison to my previous non-pro Nikon cameras. I especially like the rubberized outer surfaces. The little notches and curves around the body make for a very solid and steady grip. It has all of the options I care about except mirror lockup. I find all of the controls I want to use easy to comprehend and remember. Everything seems to be in a logical place. Virtually 100% of my shooting is done with matrix metering and most of that with flash fill, indoors or out, day or night. Great exposures are the norm. AF is quicker and quieter than I've ever had before but I honestly haven't had problems with AF on my slower, less refined AF cameras. Nikon autofocusing, fast or slow, has always worked well in the kind of shooting I do. Couple this with Nikon glass and I feel I have it all.

Customer Service

I once had a zoom lens under warranty that demonstrably had a focusing problem at long distances. Nikon returned it saying it checked out. All of my other lenses worked well with my N8008 at the time.

Strength:

Best slr on the market I think. A lot better matrix metering than canon. Using flash on the eos compared to nikon.......hahaha...nikon wins again.....and again....

Weakness:

They complain of no mlu of the f100 but I have have compared the f100 to my contax with carl zeiss lense(50mmf1.4) with true manual mlu and the zeiss lense is a little sharper or has more contrast(some people say more 3d)but no difference because of lack of mlu of the f100. Canon has more usm lenses than nikon, but tested eos 3 with the usm 28-105 compared to the nikon f100 with the 28-105 the nikon was faster and more precise in af. Film leader retracted upon rewind, can be modified by Nikon at no charge so ok...

buy it. Better feel than the Canon eos 3, but it is more of feel than joining the war of comparing cameras. If u like the feel of the eos 3, buy it. Very good camera. F100 has slower af when the af is close to its focusing point. but when it focusis from sort of minimum to maximum the f100 is faster. And when compared shooting side by side(I have) the f100 feels faster and more precise. Especially in low light and diffucalt situations the f100 is a lot better and faster. In situations when the eos 3 just could not focus the f100 took 10 pictures in 2-3 seconds

Customer Service

Strength:

Robust, SOLID, build like a tank just like my F3HP. Very accurate metering system! The best of all Nikon AF cameras since N8008 came out 10-12 years ago.

Weakness:

NO mirror lock-up! Still you don't really need it.

I have use Nikon F100 for about 1 year now and find it very useful in its AF capability. It is fast and accurate and very simple layout compare to Canon platform. Direct, METAL, well-made camera and feels very solid in your hand. And that's what the PRO camera is all about. I shoot B&W films for weddings with available light with no problem. This is the best AF camera made by Nikon so far. Have rented F5 before, and I feel the F100 has a slightly faster AF... but again I love the metering systems in the F5. Still, it is expensive and it's a dream camera for people who have made enough money in photography. My advice is go with Nikon F100 for its weight and save your money to buy good flash and lenses. Nikon F100 is the best choice and cost half of the F5.
