Strength:

At the time I purchased the 8008, it was one of Nikon's premier cameras for non-pros. I have always preferred Nikon optics, and the 8008 was a bargain compared to the F4.

Weakness:

From my perspective, the camera had two primary weaknesses: its metering system and its autofocus mechanism. To the company's credit, Nikon attempted to resolve both problems with the introduction of the 8008S.

While the first generation Nikon 8008 is a solid and reliable 35mm camera, it has two significant weaknesses. I was constantly frustrated with the camera's automatic exposure modes as well as the sluggish and unpredictable autofocus mechanism. For those reasons, I cannot recommend the 8008 highly; instead, try to find an 8008S, or better yet, an N90S. The updated technology in these later generation autofocus cameras is significantly improved.

Customer Service

Never had a problem with the 8008 that required contact with Nikon Customer Service.

I love this body I allso own a F4 but dont use it much anymore. I am a backpacker, hiker and this camera has never let me down. The only thing I can say bad about it is that it does not focus as fast as some of the newer cameras.

Strength:

easy in my hand and quick to adjust in manual mode

Weakness:

AF not as fast as my f4s
a bit antiquated there,
other than that it is flawless

will always have this baby with me ...
it has paid me well as wedding photo candid shooter to baby portraits and candids
it's primary roll now is to back up my f4s when doing jobs , but, often becaomes the one i grab for the quick predictable shooter

Customer Service

Strength:

The camera was ready for whatever I was ready for. WITH the exception of NOT having a abuilt in flash, everything from multiple exposure to shooting as a beginner, it ALWAYS made me llok good and more importantly, made my subjects look good. If you should stumple across the opportunity to buy one, my advice is DON'T pass it up.

Weakness:

No built in flash. Other than that, nothing but pleasure for two and a half years.

The bottom line. Nikon should have never discontinued the camera in my opinion.

Strength:

I find the camera fits well in my hand. Its Light weight, and has a large selection of lenses. The metering is almost always right on, even with difficult lighting. Suggested setting can be modified with a flip of a finger with out taking the camera from my eye

Weakness:

Had a Battery leak and its hard to clean out the pocket that the battery pack slides into

Overall its a great camera for the working photographer that needs a solid body that he can depend on. There are lots of accessories to pick from, and they are available almost everywhere.

Customer Service

I had an sigma zoom lens that I got with my 2020 that would not talk to the SB-24 flash. Nikon Customer service told me that the lens was made the same year the 8008 came out and sigma would modify it for free.

Strength:

Well made camera body offered at the $500-$600 price point (new). Interchangable finder screens, well-built aluminum frame. 1/3 stop exposure compensation. Runs on AA batteries rather than the more inexpensive lithium ones. Will use older Nikon lenses.

Weakness:

None in three years of use.

I'm not sure why Nikon abandoned this model and price point in favor of the considerably more expensive N-90s. The N-70 benefits from the inevitable improvements in auto-focus speed and slight metering advantages (using "D" designated lenses), but suffers from a more cheaply constucted body and lacks interchangable finder screens. A body well worth considering even though it can only be bought used.

Not to heavy

Weakness:

None. Except shyness on my part with the quartz digital displays. But never failed.
Maybe AF a bit slow compared with today's, but not a problem.

I am sorry I gave it away. I should have continue to enjoy it.

Great ergonomics, superb exposure control and very capable.

Weakness:

They replaced them too soon!!!!

What great cameras these were. I had three of the 8008s bodies and loved them. I made the mistake of selling them and buying the N90 and N90s bodies. A disappointment as many 8008 users would agree. A classic by all means.

Matrix metering, user interface, ergonomics, reliablity, weight and looks.

Weakness:

DOF switch is hard to press. Other than that--nothing.

A classic Nikon Camera. I've had two--an N8008 that I wore out and I currently own a used N8008s. Both are great cameras that impressed me with reliable exposures. The Matrix metering in the N8008 nails shots like crazy--even in tricky lighting conditions. It balances well in the hand. The AF is outdated, but that's a minor point on a otherwise great camera. A favoriate of National Geographic Photographers...and I can see why.
