Strength:

The battery booster is a must.(BP300 i think)
The verticals are perfect when in use, mostly because of the convenient shutter release well placed at the bottom side.Lots of great features and the seven point focus is very convenient.Very quiet and the price doesnt get any better than that of pro level cams.OH ya, get only high end lenses with it, or single focal fast lenses.Don't buy the 28-90.

Weakness:

NO IR. Also low light can be challenging unless you have a fast lens.(f 2.8)Almost a bit too light. I like a bit of weight for handholding.The 28-90 lens is overpriced and is a guaranteed waste if dropped.

I almost wish it wasnt as popular as it is. I like to use what others dont.i.e manual cams.

Customer Service

hope i never need to service it.

Strength:

EOS33 simply is a Fast, Quiet, Accurate and Reliable camera. It provides marvelous image quality and shooting experience to the users.

Weakness:

The AF-assist FLASH makes me feel dizzy.

Based on the image quality, I found Nikon is better then Canon. However, Canon provides much faster and quieter focusing, film and shutter operations, especially EOS33. This allows EOS33 to be used in any circumstances, even in the noise sensitive environments, such as seminar and library. Together with the ease of control, EOS33 is dedicated to anyone (pros and amateur) who loves to enjoy the fun of photography. If you ask for perfect image quality and can afford the Nikon AF-S ED lens, choose Nikon.

Customer Service

I hope it is as durable as my Nikon F801s.

Nice SLR, 13 custom functions, E-TTL, light
SLR,Nice Dials

Weakness:

NO A/F in low light, slow shutter, canon did not go all the way with this one.

The Eos Elan 7 the A2 killer or not? I think not with a slow shutter speed of 1/4000 and no PC Terminal and A/F which dosent work well in low light this is not a professional SLR. But it has a lot on nice features a pro would want, but canon did not take the Eos elan to the EOS A2 level. Which is sad because there is no middle on the road Eos now. Over all this camera is nice
I use it as a back-up unit to my Eos A2. I am a EOS system user and I know canon well. I use canons 28-70/2.8L, 50mm 1.0, 17-35/2.8L and 85/1.8
lenses in my Eos system wich is canon top grade glass. Over all the E7 is a good SLR with nice features,not as good a EOS A2 wich in some areas is less advanced SLR. If you need A/F in low light go to manual A/F keeps hunting for focus and you can miss a shot not worth it if you ask me. If you have more money to spend buy the EOS 3.
I will need to upgrade in the next year E7 will not cut it for my needs. I got the E7 because I want to try out the E-TTL system,if it works well I will up grade to an EOS 3. Also if you have big hands buy the grip or you will drop the camera.

Strength:

* Great AF
* Outstanding metering
* Lots of features
* Easy-to-use interface
* Quiet.

Weakness:

* AF in dark (although the 420EX flash solves this)
* Awkward to hold with my hands (pinky has nowhere to go) - Solved with the BP-300 battery pack.
* Will not work with IR film

I love this camera! I originally looked at the Nikon N80 -- partly because I have always considered Nikon to be the Lexus of cameras. But after my research, it seems like Nikon rested a little on their reputation, where Canon went that extra mile in their design. The N80 is a good camera, but the Canon was just better.

Dislikes:
* I found the body a little small, and it was awkward to take pictures with the camera vertical. This was easily solved with the BP-300 batter pack that adds more grip and a vertical shutter release.
* The Elan 7 doesn't focus well in low light. I purchased the 420EX flash and now I can focus in the dark. It sends out an IR pulse that allows it to focus in almost any lighting condition.

Likes:
* Metering is amazing. I do not own a light meter and have always relied on the camera's metering. Not that my Minolta did a bad job but this does an amazing job.
* Controls are easy to use -- very easy to use in full manual mode
* The AF is blazingly fast. According to Canon, it can track something going 185 MPH. All I know is that it can track my 3 year old nephew in hyper mode.
* Feels solid.
* Seven AF ranges are much more versatile than the N80's five.

I am sure the N80 is good camera, but feature-for-feature the Canon EOS Elan 7 is the better camera.

Strength:

-Speed of focus and film advance.
-Layout and design of controls.
-Quality of exposures.
-Light weight (even with battery pack).
-Tons of features.
-Consistantly excellent metering.
-Canon 'feel'.

Weakness:

-Needs flash to auto-focus in very low light conditions.
-Remote control has to be purchased separatley, even though remote receiver is built into camera. Seems like a cash grab.

Beautiful camera, easily one of the best 'bang for the buck' cameras out there. This camera is perfect for beginners all the way through to semi-professionals.
My girlfriend (who is camera illiterate) shoots great pics with my Elan 7.
Myself, I prefer the controls that allow me to acheive the exact look I want.
The Elan 7 has never let me down.

A couple of things to note:

The 4 frames per second in 'on shot' mode is very fast for a camera in this price range.
The camera is one of the lightest I've used in quite awhile.
The metering deserves special credit, it is truly
well designed.

Strength:

Metering system, feel, and viewfinder. I took a short trip last weekend with my daughter, who used a Rebel G. Shots of the same subjects, both in green mode, were consistently and surprisingly better-metered with the 7. Nice feel with the 85mm 1.8 attached. I do not favor cameras with diopter adjustments. First, they're not strong enough for my eyes (I need about -4 to -5), and they seem to introduce more distortion than they're worth. This one does not. I adjusted it so that I could use it with my glasses on (probably to about 0 to -1). No noticeable distortion, and sufficiently bright and large view.

Weakness:

None apparent. However, it is new to my stable, and I am not a professional.

Definitely worth the step up from G/IX Lite. I am not aware, however, of much objective difference from the Rebel 2000, other than mainly build and custom functions, which I will leave in default. However, nice feel compared to a smaller body.

This is the first camera I have used with this type of metering system. It so outdid the G in complex lighting situations that I will be careful in the future as to when to use the G again, if at all.

not much other than that

this is my first af slr..ive been strictly manual before this. this camera makes the transition extreamly easy!! it takes crisp clear picturs and as i said before the meetering is right on.
definately worth the low low price. :) i recommend this camera to almost anyone who is on a budget and wants to have very good gear....the pro's can have their 1-n, i'll pocket the difference and get a new lens... :)

Weakness:

Rock solid construction with all of the features I really needed. Incredible value compared to high end Eos cameras which have many features I will never use. If you have big hands you must get the BP-300 battery pack to make this a really great camera. The added shutter release for verticles is a big plus.

Strength:

-Ease of operation and learning
-Location of aperture and shutter speed controls in manual control mode (and other modes, too) were easily learned and now feel very instinctively intuitive to a first-time "auto-this, auto-that" user.
-Loving auto-focus while also learning to recognize when it works (a lot of the time with high contrast focal point features) and when it requires intervention.
-Quiet
-Light
-When correctly configured, the automation features allow you to concentrate on composition in fast work.
-I love the exposure auto-bracketing features and the rapid-fire, multiple exposure modes that make numbingly easy.
-Film loading/ISO setting is a no-brainer with exposure compensation easily attained.
-I enjoy the ability to set a flash compensation amount for fill flash.
-The TTL, 35-zone metering mode has delivered extraordinary results in metering situations ranging up to above moderately challenging.

Weakness:

-It takes a while to learn about the different operating modes and dizzying array of features
-The little cap over the remote release jack is too small to keep track of and too easy to lose.
-It would be nice to have the film ISO rating displayed on the LCD control panel in all of the operating modes--I can't easily read the film container through the back panel window in less than optimum light.
-The camera doesn't feel as compact in my hand and as simple to operate as my OM-4Ti, but it's even quieter and I'm sure that with time, the Elan-7 will feel just as easy to use and hand-comfortable.

For me, an amateur photographer, coming from the world of manual focus and manual metering with the Olympus OM series cameras, the Canon Elan 7 was easily learned and surprisingly quickly became the camera I gravitated toward first for portraiture, then urban imagery, then for snapshots, and so on. I still feel most comfortable using the manual mode, but have been pleased with the automatic mode results when I've ventured into that.
I bought a Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM lens shortly after I bought the camera and have been extraordinarily happy with the image clarity, contrast and overall quality of images I've captured with the system.

Customer Service

Terry's Camera only superficially appears to be an old-fashioned, walk-in camera shop with guys that know a lot about traditional photography. Layered on top of that veneer, they have all of the new-fangled gadgets and expertise to support, coach and service the latest digital technology, too.
It's more expensive to go there for purchases, supplies, etc., but I love the knowledge resources and the personal connections.

Strength:

-Good transition camera for advanced amatuers
-Metering is spot on
-solid construction
-enough features to satisfy most outdoor photographers

Weakness:

-hard to see controls in low light conditions
-af not reliable in low light conditions
-af seeks alot in heavy bush conditions
-af may not work when using continuous shooting through tree limbs or grasses
-af 28-90 lens supplied with the camera appears to be cheaply made
-steep learning curve for first time buyers of slr cameras

This is a great camera for anyone just entering the professional arena. Ample features to allow for futher growth and a camera that will remain a part of your collection. If you are buying this camera I suggest getting a different lens than the 28-90 supplied with it.
