Strength:

fast 4 fps versataille target audience construction light weight price

Weakness:

too many features simplify the functions layout. dof preview

Right away.....for the money....it''s a great valuwe. Good for a brawd target audience.....from beginners to amateurs, even some pros on a budget.... solid construction. Loader with features..almost too many. I like the option of the whisper drive.....although not an extremely crucial function.....it''s impressive. Fast 4 frames a second... dof preview is weak....and mirror lock up should be more easily accessed. Good design though.....all of your manual controls are at your finger tips....although it''s wierd how Canon decided to have an on or an off to acces the functions in the menu. The battery pack is almost a must (BP_300) not for battery consumption, rather for feal....the standard lithium batteries last quite long as well. I find the built in flash does the trick for me up to 10 feet.....but 10 feet is not much. And there is often a nice big black shadow from the lense hood on my 24 - 85...so remember to take it off. Overall....a great value......awesome build..... functions should be simplified, although when it comes down to it, you should achieve great shots with this camera.

Strength:

fast AF comfortable

Weakness:

The 28-90 USM lens it came with is Ok for now, but I''''m looking to get a better quality one real soon. When you change the focal length is when the lens feels its cheapest- it feels like a piece of cardboard sliding over another.

Bought the Elan 7 two weeks and so far am satisfied with. Also considered the Nikon N80/F80, but preferred the Canon''''s faster AF as well as being more comfortable for my big hands. Was using a Pentax SP1000 and so this camera doesn''''t leave the house without the manual.

Strength:

sturdy, light, quiet, simple to use, ease to control

Weakness:

metering mode selector is a button - should be a dial

perfect, don''t need the eye control. AF is fast and quick (with Canon USMs), only 7 focus points (plenty, not too many) easy to select which you want if you want to take control. GREAT meter

Strength:

ease of use expandability

Weakness:

strobe for autofocus

Simpley put, this camera has everything you could want from ease of use to expandability. I am left eye dominant and have had no problems. The camera is very fast. The manual is very good. I admit to reading here and reading about the camera before hand, but the manual is really all you need. As of now, I think Canon is getting rid of this and coming out with something else because they are offering $50 rebates. I find myself using program mode most. I am a violinist too and I feel the size and weight to be a nice fit. I would venture to say that people with REALLY BIG hands might need the battery pack. I have taken close to 20 roll far with flash and the batteries are still going strong. I turned off the beep feature. With the three meter modes, you really have to be an idiot not to be able to get the look you want. Mostly everything comes down to the lense, which is where I am going now. Buy it now or wait for the price to drop. finally, the flash recharges really fast, but like most built in flashes, don''t expect much more then fill. Finally, I hate the strobe flash to aid the focus, but my solution?? Don''t take pictures in the dark or low light, and besides I think you can turn it off. . . . then go to auto focus.

Strength:

Focusing is a snap in all but very unfriendly situations. Very quick snapshot taker. Nice and quiet for all occasions.

Weakness:

Too insubstantial w/o the BP-300 Vertical Battery Grip, which is a very nice multiple-power-source accessory. Does NOT have- a light-up LCD panel. a spot meter. !! mirror-lockup is a custom function. And this is the latest strange thing I''ve found; the Elan is unfriendly to non-Canon lenses. I''ve tried a few M42 screw-mount primes with an appropriate adapter for still lifes and such, and the Elan''s metering system consistently underexposes by more than 3 stops! Not that tough a camera-- dial and keys on back panel feel delicate. Electronic DOF preview button is very shallow and hard to press easily.

I paid full street price for my Elan 7 (don''t need the E function) and I''ve decided that while it was a good camera to get for my almost-but-not-quite-professional needs, it wasn''t worth the money because of a few things it really lacked in. The metal top cover isn''t really very useful-- most of the wear on a body that''s put to use will be on the rear panel and the bottom plate from being worn and put down and mounted on a tripod. And the it seems as though the 7 was deliberately under-functioned in order to keep it under par with the 3 by Canon engineers. With the few things that it lacks, the only thing between it and the 3 would be the focus system and the weather-proofing.

Customer Service

I always get extended warranties. I don''t trust Canon to honor anything.

Weakness:

A little bit poorly LCD

I bought this camera a few month ago as an upgrade to my EOS 50 kit with 28-105 lens. It''s aimed at users that need more features than the Eos 50 has, but don''t want to spend the cash on a "pro" camera. I have read a lot of the reviews through so many sites and agree with the vast majority and performance for the money value.

Strength:

Great weight and feel. Eye diopter adjustment. Easy to customize with the Custom Functions. Great looks. Great assortment of lenses to choose from. Buttons and knobs very ergonomical and easy. Aluminum construction for more durability.

Weakness:

Don''t like all the "Auto Modes." They should have just left those on the Rebel. Mirror lock-up is "different." Takes a bit of getting used to.

I have been shooting with the "original" Canon EOS Elan for several years now. I haven''t had any technical problems with the camera - it was just getting worn out. So, I began the search for a new camera body. I was THIS CLOSE to buying the EOS 3 when a friend of mine showed me his Elan 7e. That did it for me. I bought the Elan 7 (since I do a lot of outdoor photography, I don''t need the eye-Controlled Focus). I paid half the price that I would have with the 3, and nearly all the functions. I love the way the body feels. I haven''t purchased the battery pack yet, but plan to after reading the reviews on this site. The camera feels like a pro body. And I love the shutter! So quick and quiet. All and all, this camera is a wonderful piece of equipment.

Reasonable price with alloy body, silent operation and Remote control. Some people may compliant about the metering of this camera but it serves me very well. I always bring it with me to go hiking and events. A good choice for anyone who have great interest in photography.

Strength:

The Whisper Drive is extremely nice, as is the BP-300 grip I use it with and the focusing system almost never fails. It''s instantly easy to use with anyone who''s seen an AF body before, and the combo of the command dial and quick control dial (on the back) are the second-best placed control dials of any camera I''ve seen.

Weakness:

This camera lacks in several places that I didn''t expect it to; NO spotmeter! NO external flash sync port! NO easy way to get to autobracketing. (You have to scroll through those d*** menus.) There are NOT 35 custom functions, there are 13 custom functions with 35 total choices. NO way to activate the DOF preview without digging the end of your thumb into it. (It''s extremely shallow and hard to touch.) NO exposure or flash or autobracketing compensation beyond 2 stops either way! I think, for the price, the Elan 7 should at least have better compensation and an X-sync flash port. Why the lack of spotmeter, I cannot understand. I think Canon made the 7 weaker than it could have been.

I foolishly spent the full street price of $470 on an Elan 7 body, instead of getting it for $70 less on the ''net. Now that I''ve had some time to handle it, I''m somewhat satisfied with my purchase, but I''m not at all blown away, or even impressed. I do recommend the USM lenses, however, which are excellent for any application. I use the 28-200 and it''s solid!

Customer Service

I''ve got an extended 4-year warranty on it. I hope it''ll last that long.

Great camera for all sorts of photography... The camera is silent, u nearly can''''t hear... So it''''s great for weddings, teather and so on. It''''s very easy to use.. I use it side by side with my 1nHS... With the BP-300 the grip is even better... I use it a lot... But it can''''t beat my 1nHS, but ok it''''s cheap...
