Canon EOS 1 35mm SLRs

Canon EOS 1 35mm SLRs

DESCRIPTION

The (former) top-of-the-line EOS camera. The AF sensor is four times more sensitive than the BASIS sensor used in the EOS 650, the first EOS camera. It can autofocus even in EV -1. Also, the EOS-1's cross-type BASIS sensor was developed to enable focusing of horizontally-lined subjects. This AF sensor and the predictive AI Servo AF mode are outstanding. The camera also has a variety of metering modes: 5.8% partial metering with an 8mm-diameter circle at the center, 2.3% fine spot metering, centerweighted averaging metering with 6 zones, and 6-zone evaluative metering. High precision, high reliability, and durability characterized this camera.

Strength:

This body is very strong and well made. The AF is fast and the motor drive is fast enough to keep up in all shooting conditions

Weakness:

Its rather heavy.

This camera is a joy to own and work with. It my opinion it is better than the EOS1n or The newer 1V

Strength:

Build quality. Solid feel. Easy to use. Has ALL the functions that you would need. Flash sync = 1/250 sec.

Weakness:

Out of production. ;-)

It's solid feel is superb!!! Build quality unrivalled. It makes other EOS (other than 1N and 1V) like toys. (Those are good toys though.)

I bought a NEW EOS 1 yesterday. Yes, it is still available NEW here in some shops and it's really cheap -- cheaper than a EOS 3. I only paid around USD 699 for it!!! ;-)
It has ALL the functions you would need in photography. You won't need anything more. I also has a EOS 5 (A2) and a used EOS 1N. The 1N is good but in no way better than the 1. I also like the slim design (smaller prism compared to the 1N) over the 1N. Yes, the 1N has a few more Custom Functions, but these will not improve your pictures. It's very user-friendly and I think even anyone new to the EOS will have no problems with it.
It is heavy, with the power drive booster PB-E1. But this is what a pro, top-of-the-line camera should be. So don't complaint about that. If you can live with those cheapy cameras, go ahead, buy them and enjoy.
If you are lucky to find one NEW or used in good condition, BUY IT!! You won't regret!
It would save you $$ wasted in other cheesy bodies or those EXPENSIVE electronic toys packed with functions that you won't need 99% of the time.
Unbeatable quality overall!! Straight 10 stars!!!! BUY IT!
Also buy the PB-E1 -- the biggest advantages are better balance and better grip.

Strength:

Simplicity, Ruggedness, Choice of Glass.

Weakness:

Custom Function required to switch from Centerweighted to 6-zone evaluative metering.

A classic that is built to last. Fully featured where it counts (metering, Custom Functions, DOF preview). Totally compatible with EF lenses. A better buy used compared to new equipment.

Strength:

Solid feel
good ergonomics
Silent mirror slap
No eye control
No gimmicks like new camera

Weakness:

out of production

There are many cameras out there shouting new electronic marvels eg. eye control, 45 points AF. But what is photography? It is getting your idea of a scene capture as you want it and not how advanced a system you had. I had seen alot of amateurs at camera clubs b******g on what equipments you have but never had any one taken out the prints for evaluation during last shooting. I call it a club for people to show possession the more fanciful the better.
Eos1 is a true rated pro model and being a pioneer in the Eos line up truly lifts up to its name. What else do you want from a 10 year old camera who has all the NECESSARY functions needed to make good photos. Metering is accurate, handling superb and prices for used cheap. A great bargain when you have the King in your hand. Coupled with 28-80L f/2.8-4 lens, what can come near. Don't forget this was once the dream of many photographers. After 10 years, we read many bad reviews of this cameras as compared to the latest ones but these are the same people who once glorified this camera.
Does anyone disagree with the quality of both the lens and camera now? I doubt so.

Strength:

Very Solid unit
Well built shutter
Control layout
Booster Drive

Weakness:

If heavy is a weakness...

I've tried a few different models and this blows them all away.
Very similar in feel to the Nikon F4S, but the autofocus is
far superior to the F4S. As far as I'm concerned, this will
be the last camera I own.(At least for the next year, ha).
