Canon EOS 1 35mm SLRs

Canon EOS 1 35mm SLRs

DESCRIPTION

The (former) top-of-the-line EOS camera. The AF sensor is four times more sensitive than the BASIS sensor used in the EOS 650, the first EOS camera. It can autofocus even in EV -1. Also, the EOS-1's cross-type BASIS sensor was developed to enable focusing of horizontally-lined subjects. This AF sensor and the predictive AI Servo AF mode are outstanding. The camera also has a variety of metering modes: 5.8% partial metering with an 8mm-diameter circle at the center, 2.3% fine spot metering, centerweighted averaging metering with 6 zones, and 6-zone evaluative metering. High precision, high reliability, and durability characterized this camera.

Strength:

reliability, reliability and once more reliability, still a good autofocus system after all these years, simply feels good to have it in your hands, large amount of great lenses available,

Weakness:

for those who care: yes, it is the heaviest camera around, but isn't that a strength in reality

Certainly the best camera I have ever used! No doubt the most reliable camera available. "Built like a tank" is what I read in some other review - that is absolutely true!! Although of a certain age by now, technical features are still competitive to modern cameras. The autofocus system is also competitively fast. Think of a camera that gives you all you need and does not occupy your time with all the modern useless technical toys - this is the one.

Strength:

affordability; reliability; rugged build fast autofocus for age; compatability with Canon & third-party lenses

Weakness:

no longer in production

If you''''re looking for a professional camera without the professional price, this is the best buy out there. The EOS-1 was built to last, taking just about anything thrown its way. For its age, the autofocus is pretty fast and it handles great. Yes, it''''s heavy, but personally I like that, I like to know I''''ve got a camera in my hands! With the lenses available from Canon and third-party''''s as well, the EOS-1 can handle anything situation you can put it in.

Strength:

-Accurate and fast autofocus -Solid construction -Fantastic lenses -REALLY intuitive to use (I learned in 5 minutes

Weakness:

-The loudest camera I''ve ever used, motor drive sounds like a machine gun and the rewind sounds like a banshee. I wouldn''t use it in a quite place.

This camera is a fantastic bargain, I used one in the NCAA basketball tournament (I''m a college student sports photographer) and it was a dream come true. Very fast motor, and VERY fast autofocus (especially for its age). It weighs A TON, but balances well with long lenses. For all of you that care, the only photographer at the tournament shooting Nikon 35mm was from Sports Illustrated (go figure) and he was shooting F3HP''s. No F5''s there at all. The EOS-1 was ahead of its time and continues to be competitive. Great ergonomics and comfortable to hold (I have small hands). The metering never disagreed with my handheld meter. I had a hard time going back to my Elan 7E which will set you back about the same amount that a used EOS-1 in great condition will. I wish I''d tried this camera earlier. This is not a camera for beginners but will serve a serious amature on a budget very well. My Elan 7E is going up for sale shortly.

Strength:

As above, strong, lasts long.

Weakness:

As anyone would say when they first hold one... "bloody hell, it''s heavy"

What can I say!!! When I received this lump via courier I had doubts that I would be able to hold it still long enough to compose a decent picture!! But... compared to my EOS 5 the EOS 1 is the best camera I have ever owned. Its fast, its precise, its a workhorse, its for life

Customer Service

It had received a service before I bought it!

Strength:

Easy to use;
Strong and rugged;
A lot of features meeting the demands of experts and professionals;
very sensitive AF sensor
very good qualitt yet comapratively low-prized;
can be fully automatic or manual.

Weakness:

Sometimes hunts when autofocusing;
Difficult autofocusing in taking pictures at night.

A very user-friendly camera with a lot of feautes meeting the needs ranging from the novice and the professionals. The price is comparatively cheap, in particular taking into account its quality.
I bought the camera more than eight years ago. Since then, I have tried other newer models both from Canon and other manufacturers, with a view to buy another newer or better one. The result is that I always give up the idea as I do not find another camera, overal speaking, is much better than EOS-1 !
I do wish my EOS-1 can continue to operate indefinitely becuase I have never taken it to the retailer for any routine maintenace since I first bought it !

Good camera, excellent price, tough as nails. I like mind so much I bought a second one. Can only think of 1 time I didn't get the shot because of the camera and that was my fault too. Now they are excellent price values too.

Strength:

Still very fast autofocusing with fast lenses. Strong and rugged.

Weakness:

Not much.

I bought this camera 10 years ago and as far as I'm concerned, it is still up there with the latest and greatest systems on the market today. Although it does not have all the bells and whistles of the newer cameras such as multi-autofocusing zones, multi-metering zones, silent rewind, etc, it still provides excellent image results if you are used to the camera and know how to use it to its full potential. Compared to the Nikon F4 rival of the time, I truly believe the EOS-1 is faster and much more user friendly and efficient to operate. Yes it's heavy with the power booster, but you can always remove it to save weight if you wish. The bottom line, the origial EOS-1 is still a very potent camera to have if you are a serious photographer looking for a used system. My EOS-1 will be a part of my photographic arsenal for years to come!

Strength:

Strength, low light ability, and versatility

Weakness:

None that concern me

Let me explain that I'm a working pro, but at little publications here and there, while following the wife, an Air Force officer, around the world. I never own the latest thing. I hardly ever buy new. My F-1 was purchased used 20 years ago and just had its shutter repaired last year, but is still as accurate and sharp as ever. Over the years my eyesight has become less accurate, however, so I've gradually added some EOS equipment to my kit. The EOS 1 reviews here and comparison charts in photo pubs kept showing that -1 EV focussing, and I decided to get one with booster drive on EBay. (By the way, you don't always get a good price there. It took a while for me to succeed in winning an auction without going over what I knew to be a fair price). Then I took the camera to a dance recital and working backstage shot up a roll in light so bad that I really couldn't see what I was shooting half the time. Yep! It worked. Sure, it doesn't have the versatility of focus that my A2 has, but where and when I need it, it can't be beat. It has become my primary carry camera. If there is a drawback for me it is the size and location of the on-off switch. I may soon dump the A2 and get an 1n or 1n RS, but when the light gets low, the 1 is the one to have.

Customer Service

Whenever I've needed it, it's been good.
