Strength:
very eazy to use. get a tri pod and is like steady as a monument.
Weakness:
non that I would think of. back in 1980, after I turn 15 years old, my father gave his camera so that I can take pictures of the stars and planets with the telescope that I got for my birthday. this camera has been with me eversince. I have taken it to Mexico, trade it to my father in law for a car and then he trade it back to me. It has never had the need for any type of maintenance except regular lens cleaning. |

Strength:
Older but simple. The engineers at canon hit a home run when they came up with this model!
Weakness:
A bit heavy. Battery life has always been a problem for me! I have had it around the world a couple of times. I still use it with my digitals. Easy to use! |

Weakness:
a little heavy but not bad at all this camera was my grandfathers and was handed down to my mother upon his death. Then to me when my mother got a canon rebelG. The sad part is that i have already been ofered up to 1000 for the camera. This camera was bought in 1983 and has made multiple trips across the country, with no service as of yet. GREAT camerea that takes great pictures. Customer Service NONE!!!!!! Similar Products Used: rebelG and rebel ti |

Strength:
Ease of Use Easy removal of lenses Tough body (takes some good knocks!)
Weakness:
A bit heavier than later models I also got this as a new camera for my 14th birthday waay back when in 1982, for a photography class I was in. I don't think I've ever used -anything- that has been as trouble free as this camera. The only thing that ever went wrong is one day I pointed it at the sun, and pressed the shutter button 1/2 way to get a light meter reading, and I think i broke the meter, because ever since the needle rests at the top and not the botton of the viewfinder. But it never stopped takking great pictures, and although I'd like a digital camera, i'll -never- give up my AE1... Customer Service never! |

Strength:
Easy to focus Easy change lens
Weakness:
Heavy Difficult to change film speed sometimes Works great indoors and out. I found it easy to focus with, and easy to switch lenses. I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner, I was a beginner when I recieved it, and I wish i would have started on a more simple camera, just to learn the basics. But if you know a little about what you are doing, this is a great camera to advance on. |

Strength:
Cheap body and lenses, easy to use, practical for portrait photos if you want to be "unseen", very high standanrd photos.
Weakness:
Focusing may be a problem when little time is available to frame, focus and shoot. Very easy to use, light (as comapred to the NikonF5,long-lasting battery, and has given me photos as professional as the F5. Incospicous during portrait photography. Lenses are smaller and cheaper than other AF lenses. Similar Products Used: Canon A-1. |

Strength:
You can select various exposure speeds and aprature speeds as well. The flash boot is standard and there is a frame counter.
Weakness:
Due to the weight, it can be a litthe bulky and is dificult to hold for long periods of time. Everything is manuly done, from focusing to winding. Authough the camera doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the more modern cameras of today, I find it to be a very good camera for beginers because there isn't any complicated technology to mess around with. Customer Service There is still aftermarket parts made for the camera so if there was ever something that breaks on the camera, it can be replaced. Similar Products Used: N/A |

Strength:
Very easy to use and learn. Very versitile many professionals used this as a spare body, myself included. Used all the same lenses that the Canon F1 (Professional)did. FD series lenses.
Weakness:
The Center weighted light meter. In other words it meters the entire frame. If you are a considerable distance from your subject and you have very bright background (like a beach in the middle of the day or a ski slope on a sunny day) The extremely bright light can "fool" the meter and set the exposure for the background resulting in a perfectly exposed background and silhouetted subject. The only ways to counter this effect is to move closer to your subject to where it dominates the frame or to turn your back to the bright back ground with your subject opposite. There is a "backlight control switch" on the side of the camera housing next to the lens but the only helps to a degree. It gives you 1-1/2 steps more exposure. Of course, this can be a desireable effect. Once I attended and airshow and a formation of F-4 Phantoms flew overhead and (I had my 50mm lens on) and I snapped a pic resulting in a beautiful blue sky and four F-4 silhouettes in a wedge formation. Very cool pic! Had it blown up into a poster. Lots of compliments! I bought this camera 1980 when I was a senior in high school. And I has served me well ever since. Between 1980 and 1990 I rarely went anywhere without it and I have shot literally thousands of photos. Strength:
-manual and automatic exposure -pc port -completely sealed back good for infrared films -durable
Weakness:
-shutter squeak -heavy I actually purchased the AE-1 Program, but they are similar enough and they don't have a review for it. Anyways, this is my first SLR and I love it. I feel that I've learned quite a bit from using the manual exposure and manual focusing on this camera. The automatic exposure is very accurate and it seems to be quite durable. My photographs are always sharp with this camera. Customer Service not used and probably non-existant nowadays Similar Products Used: none |
