Heavy I am a hobby photographer and was excited when Sony offered a full frame digital camera in the $2,600 range. I did my research and purchased this camera. The camera has a wonderful feel, takes fantastic photos, I loved it. That is, until, I got involved with Sony's service department. Or I should say, NO service department. My camera began shooting randomly on its own and then it would freeze up. I would take the battery out re-install the battery and all would be fine. A fluke I thought. It continued randomly shooting on its own thus becoming very annoying, especially when you had that fantastic moment for a terrific photo and the camera would shoot on its own and freeze. Most annoying!

Bright, big, 100% optical view finder. If you haven't enjoyed a proper viewfinder for composing shots, you have no idea what you are missing...
Weakness:
For me, not many. 5fps is good considering the image size, but... Would have been nice to have a higher FPS with a lower resolution.
Great camera for its intended use. Not the best at high ISO, not the best (but still good) at sports due to a very average 5fps and just 'ok' focus tracking, but its great for outdoors, landscapes, and tripod work.
Customer Service Never needed it... However, they do not offer any special "Professional" service options like some of their competitors. It's all just consumer, basic support...

Strength:
smooth and creamy high resolution images. better than many medium format digital backs.
Weakness:
Sony cameras are rarely sold in local camera shops so pro models and lenses are hard to check out.
I am a studio mainly photographer with a good deal of personal and art photography outside. Being more a casual photographer in the last few years and returning to a nore serious workload. After waiting quite a time to buy since using the minolta 7D and sony taking over minolta. I eventually went down to Sony style to try the a900. I have been a Minolta user for 20 years and when I bought the 7d the 9d was supposed to be close behind. I didn't get a complete feel for it but at least the knowlege that it was worth buying. I got a great deal on one with the 70-400 g lens as I am moving towards doing some aviation photography to coincide with a warbird hobby.

This is a short follow up on the comments by cgarrard. That was a great review and technically there is not much more to add. I will review the a900 in respect of how it works for me.

Ultimately the Sony A900 was built for Minoltan's who wanted an upgrade path to the discontinued KM 7D. In a sense, this camera is a confluence of that camera, the Sony A700, and the Minolta Maxxum 9 film camera that never saw a digital equivalent come to life.
Customer Service Excellent for other service but the A900 has had no issues to date Similar Products Used: Sony A700
