Strength:
With good lighting it has great quality video and picture that is hard to tell the difference between a DSLR and this. Even untouched photos turn out great if you take the time to set the camera up correctly.
Weakness:
Low lighting with filming is really hurt hard, but with an additional light source it changes it to be a great camera. There really isn't anything else I can think of as a weakness on this camera. I spent about 6 years off from camera work and in the past I used a 35mm film camera with a bunch of lenses. I wanted to get back in to my passion again, but didn't want to get an extremely expensive DSLR. So I went with the Lumix FZ100 after going over many different bridge cameras. It has all the functions one could want of any camera. It takes great video, if you have good lighting and take the time to know your settings. It also takes wonderful close up shots as well as long distance shots, just make you use a tripod for the distance shots. Overall the camera is great, but without tweaking a bit here and there on the settings you are not going to be happy and I'm afraid that most people that say the camera was not worth it did not take the time to set the camera up or understand the features and which ones to use in what type of settings. The camera is not setup straight out of box unless you use the IA (intelligent Auto) feature on the dial. I found that this site - http://previewofmyfz100.canalblog.com/ - was a great help in setting up the camera and understanding most of the features better. It's not in English, but it has Google translator imbedded in the sight. |

I have a Lumix FZ35 a year ago and purchased a couple of months the new FZ100, I mean that this new camera is excellent as its predecessor. The new MOS sensor works very well. A bit noisy above ISO 800, as any super zoom camera in this category. Manufacturing quality is as good as before and the 18x zoom to 24x increase, with the same quality of autofocus and anti vibration. Not to mention the video, is excellent. Do not be swayed by the bad reviews from fans of other brands such as Panasonic is still the leader in this segment. The FZ100 is worth every dollar you spend on it. Strength:
Good zoom
Weakness:
Everything else that a camera should do which is take good photos. Feels very cheap to handle I really don't have very much to say about this camera except that I was very excited at the prospect of getting it. However when it arrived & I took it out of the box it felt cheap. I had been upgrading from the Sony DSC H20 which I bought earlier in the year & I have now gone back to it. I returned the FZ100 a week after I bought it the photos were appalling. The noise in the photos in comparison to the h20 which was half the price was unreal. The only good things about this camera is the zoom & the video mode. The H20 however still tops the fz100 even in those Categories. Give this camera a wide berth even if this camera was half the price its not worth it. Similar Products Used: Sony DSCH20 |
