Strength:

Resolution
High quality lens
Solid and heavy
Easy to use

Weakness:

Eats batteries faster than you can throw them at it. Absolutely appalling unless you want to spend $600 on the vertical grip with the new lithium polymer Olympus battery or power it from the mains all the time.
Camera shuts down after 5 pics and then you have to turn it off and back on again at the main switch to take another 5 pics and so on. Who could cope with that??

This camera could have been great but with it's battery problems (well known by the way) it's about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike!! Fortunately the shop will take it back and I'm getting a Canon D30 instead. Bye bye Olympus.

Strength:

Solidly built. Great lens. Uses both SmartMedia and CF. LCD doubles as a viewfinder if needed. This is a wonderful camera relative to my previous C-2500L and the logical step up. It's without a doubt in my mind the best all-around digital camera Olympus has made to date.

Weakness:

Non-interchangable lens. Requires completely different teleconverter/wide angle converter than the 2500L. Doesn't come with rechargables. Although the claim is 4mp usable pixels aren't that much more than the 3.2-3.3mp cameras. Image quality was good, better than my 2500L but not that much better and a far distance from the Canon D30 which I paid only $500 more for. Max shutter speed of 1/650 is too slow for many sports shots.

In the end, I was going to live with all the shortcomings because I really liked the quality of the build and a lot of the features of this camera plus I have a boatload of SmartMedia and I also own a FL-40 flash unit. But, the sensor noise was the last straw. If I'm going to pay $2k for a camera I might as well pay $500 more (well, $800 more by the time I bought a 24-70mm Canon lens) and have something a lot more flexible with higher quality and be able to reap the benefits of my lens investment with future camera bodies

In TIFF Mode Takes long time to process pictures

Great 4.0 megapixel camera. Doesn't do everything I want including 640 max shutter speed, but for the price...I dare you.

Strength:

- great image quality
- extremely good lens
- well-designed controls
- sturdy full-metal body
- powerful pop-up flash
- excellent TTL optical viewfinder
- tilting LCD viewfinder
- 4/3 image aspect ratio (same as computer and video screen)
- accepts both CF and SM cards
- excellent battery life and multiple battery options
- quick turn on time
- variety of resolution and compression options
- powerful built-in flash
- comes with a wireless remote control
- image histogram on LCD
- four-picture memory buffer
- well integrated with the optional FL-40 flash
- inexpensive (compared to other digital SLRs)
- the backlit LDC top panel great for my old eyes!

Weakness:

- way too slow to review images on LCD
- very slow to zoom and pan images on the LCD screen
- the camera cannot be controlled from the computer
- no flashable ROM for firmware upgrades
- a bit on the heavy side
- expensive (compared to non-SLR digitals)
- bulky (compared to point-and-shoot cameras)
- accessories (lenses, flash, cable release) are expensive

This is the camera I've been waiting years for - it feels right at home to an old SLR user. I've put it to use to support my 3D animation and video work, as well as for family and church photography.

The E-10 has quality construction throughout and excellent attention to the design of the controls. Image quality is outstanding!

The lens was obviously optimized for the CCD, eliminating the unavoidable compromises with interchangeable lenses designed for the 35mm film frame. I do not have the add-on telephoto lenses, but the macro and wide-angle lenses are excellent glass - they appear to have been designed as extensions of the primary lens to provide an integrated optical quality not possible with cheap add-on conversion lenses. And one point often overlooked in the debate between over interchangeable lenses: that the primary lens is NOT removable insures that the internals of the camera remain sealed from the elements.

The battery life is excellent with NiMH rechargeable AA batteries, and the alternative battery options insure you will never miss that last picture. (Note - if you ignore the manual and try to use alkaline AA batteries, you will be VERY disappointed!)

This camera may NOT be a good value to someone who wants a point-and-shoot camera to email photos of baby to Aunt Bess. I think this camera IS a good value for general professional, business, technical, and uncompromising amateur use.

The bottom line: this camera not only provides excellent image quality, but is easy to operate, has the controls the professional needs, and just plain makes photography fun again! The worst thing about the E-10 is the emotional trauma you will experience the first time someone wants to borrow it.

Strength:

Fabulous image quality
Very full featured SLR
Useful line of accessories

Weakness:

Write speed to SM and CF of tiff files is slow, "recall time for viewing on LCD" very slow.

This is a fabulous camera. The first consumer/pro digital camera that handles like a real camera and not some "Transformer morphing Power-ranger like toy".... It makes great images right out of the box. 13x19" prints look as good as any other conventional process out there.

This camera requires the user to understand photography to use effectively, and some time with the manual to tap fully into its capabilities.

All the noise about "noise" is just that... noise. The noise I see on my E10 is about what you'd see in "grain" on 35mm with ASA 200 film. Not a factor.

The useful range of the fixed zoom is about perfect. The accessory lenses are amazingly well built, and very very sharp and fast. They are NOT as easy to use as interchangable lenses though.

The only flaw in the camera/lens that I've found is a small amount of barrel distortion on max wide zoom. Not a big deal if you use a decent image processing program, but still not what you'd expect from Oly glass which is usually perfect.

This camera is a serious image making machine for pros who don't need blinding speed in handling, and for serious artists/amateurs.

It isn't a camera for the un-washed masses who want a digital camera to take to Aunt Tilley's 75th BD party for "happy snaps."

It is expensive, considering the need for a good quality power system for it -- either the LiPo grip setup, or very good quality Nimh batts (several sets) and a good quality charger.

It is a "bargain" compared to the high end SLR's out there.

Strength:

Great ergonomics and picture quality, contrary to some other reviews here. Prints great up to 12x16. Much better quality than G1 IMHO.

Manual says it needs rechargables, so those who complain it eats batteries should RTFM.

Weakness:

A little slow on AF sometimes. Screw on accessory lens are a bit of a pain.

Wow! I'm sure something better in my price range will come out soon, but I'm not worried as this camera prints up to the largest I'll ever need, and the prints are great!

Strength:

Solid build quality,
35mm type handling and design,
well laid out controls, feels very intuitive in hands, great lens

Weakness:

Slow image playback time, wish it had multiple focusing points

The E-10 is certainly one of the best of the current crop of digital cameras on the market. Olympus has done a great job of putting professional 35mm camera qualities and feel into this camera. It is a joy to use and the image quality surpasses any other digital I have yet to use or own. At $2000 or less, it's a great value to me as a working professional. The LiPo battery grip is a wonderful addition as well making the camera feel and handle even more like a pro level 35mm SLR. And I can go a week or more on a single battery charge...fantastic! The E-10 will easily pay for itself fast enough in my studio for the next generation of improved digitals, but I have a feeling this is one camera I'll keep even after I upgrade the next time. I've never been a big Olympus fan in the past, but this camera has one me over and continues to help "pay my bills" every day!

Strength:

It could almost be a "real" camera the way it handles, excellent resulution, good low light performance, superb images.

Weakness:

Interchangable lenses would be nice as would microdrive support

I'm now using the E-10 successfully professionally. I simply could not justify a D30 / D1 / S1Pro for my portrait business but the E-10 works perfectly. It is heavy on batteries, but a couple of spare sets of NiMh ensures a days shooting.

Sure I'd love a D1x when it comes out but I'd have to sell a LOT of pictures to justify the cost.

Strength:

All in one camera. Useful features. Feels good in your hand. Solidly built. Excellent value for $$$ spent. Well thought out interface design.

Weakness:

Pricing is way too high vs. useable life span. New models of digital cameras in general are introduced every six months making the previous edition obsolete.

Good camera value. Feels and shoots like traditional 35mm film cameras. Produces high quality images more than good enough for pro use. Image quality is sufficient to produce outstanding 20x24 prints. Camera looks good in your hands and feels good. Makes you want to go out and shoot with it! Solidly built yet lightweight enough to carry on a day shoot or for trekking downtown. High quality glass lens produces sharp images. Will buy next generation Olympus Professional camera based on my experience with the E-10. This is a good camera choice for pros as well as advanced amateurs. Battery life using the included CR-V3 batteries is excellent. By keeping the LCD panel off, I am able to get 400-500 shots before battery exhaustion. Very acceptable.
