Strength:

Nice design, compact, durable.
As an artist, I need to take clear, closeup photos of my paintings. This camera did well.

Weakness:

Unable to stop "flash charging" and unable to shut camera off without taking out the battery. Also, the battery swells in it's compartment, needing a tool to pull it out.

I was unable to buy a new battery when in Europe - none of the camera stores had ever seen the HP battery type.

Suggest you buy a camera which takes AA batteries when out of the USA.

I used the camera for 1 year without any problems. Good picture quality.
However, after the 1st year troubles with the flash started to occur. I ended up buying new rechargeable batteries (at $40 ) because the camera heated up.

Customer Service

Hp was very helpful. Sent me a complex explanation of how to fix the camera - which didn't work.

Easy to use, reach and understand camera controls.
10 shooting modes.
Manual Control.
Optical viewfinder.
SD/MMC slot (supports up to 1.0GB card)
In-camera features: HP Adaptive Lighting and HP Real Life Technologies.
Printed User Guide.
HP Image Zone photo software.
1 year HP warranty.

Weakness:

Rather small 1.5" lcd display.
Short battery life.
Proprietary spare R07 battery (not supplied) is expensive.
Large, loose unajustable wrist strap.
Noticeable shutter lag under certain conditions.

I purchased this HP R707 digital point and shoot camera to take advavtage of a dealer 1/2 back offer on an HP 935 camera purchased a year earlier.
The 5.1 MP compact camera has numerous in-camera features that are very easy to access with all the camera controls, and the brushed stainless steel finish with the rubber back is easy to grip, and feels very comfortable.
HP Adaptive Lighting technology improved the details in shadows by brightening darker areas in photos. HP Real Life technologies included in-camera red eye removal, HP image advice, and a panorama preview mode.
HP software was also very easy to use and allows you to improve and enhance your photos.
It did not not take long to realize that a spare proprietary R07 battery was needed, as this camera uses a lot of battery power when viewing the 1.5 " lcd display.
This camera also has a very powerful built in flash, and an optical viewfinder.
You can also use this camera to shoot video clips with sound at 30 fps, if you feel so inclined. The camera also has a very complete User Guide to give you a better understanding of all the features available, and the package included all the hardware to hook it up to your computer. The camera has 32 MB of internal memory, with an SD/MMC slot that will accept a memory card up to 1.0 GB.
All in all this camera offers a lot of features, and is very good value for a reasonable price. This is a good beginner to intermediate digital camera with manual or automatic settings that will satify most of your creative digital camera requirements.
