Strength:
*Very small *quite fast autofocus compared to my EOS cameras *metal body *accurate flash with combination with white balance *menus are so simple that they seem to designed to a child *did I mention small size? *Full manual control - basic thing for me, I hate everything AUTO
Weakness:
*As for me very usefull on/off lens cover, but I don't think it will last long *Too slow AF in lo light situations (assist light helps a bit, but sometimes night flash shots simplly come out unsharp) *too shiny (but black G2 or G3 are too big) *too light! (I can make sharp photos with my EOS 30 with 50 lens at 1/10 sek. and with this digital 1/30 is a limit) *too small optical viewfinder, although it is sharp *too small batteries About a month ago I decided that I need a small camera to take it everywhere with me. I found Leica M6 for quite resonable price but I already awn a great Fuji 645 rangefinder which simplly gives better quality pictures (medium format). Leica's owners claim to own best viewfinders - look through Fujis, it's much better. A friend adviced me to try out a digital camera. After long research I bought Canon S40. Wow! At first glance I was amazed by the size of the camera - it's in size of my Nokia mobile phone! I took some photos. Connection to computer is so simple that you can't make a mistake. A printed photo in size of 15*21 cm is naturally not the quality of a good 36mm, but for all those purposses where I want to use it, it's enough. I needed a small camera - this is very small, if it only had about 10MP it would replace my Fuji I concidered digital IXUS but 2MP is not enough. Customer Service None so far, and hope not to have to use it Similar Products Used: Grabbed G2 - it's nice but not much better than this camera - the same ccd |

Strength:
Image quality --- Good quality 8 X 11 (A4) and with a bit of Photoshop processing you can even get passable A3''s. RAW image facility so same workflow as with pro D30/1D Microdrive compatable so plenty of pix per card good quality Canon Lens
Weakness:
Front cover switch likely to go first Viewfinder only shows about 80% of pic (although explained in the manual) Such nice looking wow factor means you have to keep hold of it or it will disappear could do with slightly faster lens -- note a real gripe however Although mainly a D30/D60 user (Canon digital SLR) I always love to have a P&S pocket digicam with me for weekends, etc where I can''t always take the D30''s. I had to replace my old OLY 2000Z and was a tossup between OLY 4040, G2 and S40. Discarded OLY 4040 in spite of faster Lens as CF rather than Smart Media means microdrive compatable and more pics. Decided on S40 as it is much more of an unobtrusive camera than the G2 and it really is a genuine P&S pocket camera -- at the cost of a few features which I don''t mind. And it looks "really kewl" -- move over Fuji!! Very simple to use, adequate controls -- I only bothered with P, Av, or TV -- all the other stuff I never use. Almost impossible to take a bad picture. Customer Service Not needed (so far) Similar Products Used: Oly 2000Z |
