Strength:
Relatively inexpensive - less than $300 Lens protected when cover closed. Uses readily available AA batteries with good battery life. I can get 300 pix on a 256 MB memory card. Very easy to use. Camera is small and fits in my pocket, out of the way when I'm at locations where larger cameras would be inconvenient. Picture quality is quite good.
Weakness:
Flash range is limited. Bill of cap or hardhat can hit pop-up flash causing camera the "think" that it's being shut down. It is then necessary to close and reopen camera which takes a couple of seconds to reboot. I needed a relatively inexpensive, yet rugged and compact digital camera for work. I'd be in environments where a larger camera would be a disadvantage. This Olympus camera met my criteria and since its purchase has been the camera that I've used for 90% of my photos. Strength:
good quality pics,easy to use,small size,zoom ratios
Weakness:
My camera came with an 8 meg card which is pretty useless. The Camedia 2.5 software that came with my camera is outdated for this camera, the new Camedia ver.4.0 will not be upgraded for free($20.)I feel that once you buy the camera,Olympus doesn''t want to be bothered with you anymore(they are cheap minded and I would give more weight to what is included with other camera manufacturers. I like the camera a lot in general. It seems to be more critical to hold the camera steady than with a 35mm.Do yourself a favour and buy 2 sets of rechargable batteries and a recharger and you will never run out of power. Strength:
Good quality for 2 MP camera. Excellent 5x7''s, decent 8x10''s. Fits in your pants pocket. Lens protected. Uses common A-A batteries So far no red-eye in close up flash shots Great value!
Weakness:
Most manual options via menu only, few button adjustments Lens protective cover is stiff to open Operating instuctions in manual very abbreviated; need to print out detailed manual from the included CD-ROM Camera finish is not up to Olympus standards for equally priced film cameras. Need to purchase optional memory card. My second digital camera. I purchased this one at the same time I upgraded my printer to an Epson 785 EPX. Combined the printer rebate with a BestBuy ISP rebate and got the camera gratis. Pure fun camera with only a few drawbacks. It is very easy to use in program mode - just pull back the lens cover aim the camera, and start snapping. After ripping off a SmartMedia card''s worth of snaps, you are ready to see the results. Plug the card into the printer, turn printer on, set it for index prints, and push the "print" button. Voila! 50 or 60 thumbnails on one sheet of paper in about a minute witjhout even using a computer or a seperate card reader. Then you can check the picks, select a few for 4x6, 5x7, or larger and print them. Computer/Photoshop still optional! Of course you can alternatively, hook the camera to your TV and let your friends see the pics from the cookout or bike ride you just finished 5 minutes earlier! Customer Service Olympus service has been good on previous cameras owned Similar Products Used: Kodak DC-120 various film cameras |
