Strength:

Image Stabilization and 10X optical zoom. Good layout of controls. Camedia software bundled with it is a good all around thumbnailer and viewer.

Weakness:

Easy to reset key settings accidentally. Not too impressed with manual focus, but it is usable. 1600X1200 max resolution probably limits you to an 8X10 size print max unless a product like Genuine Fractals is used. Wide angle setting is only 38mm equivalent.

I''m very happy with it. I bought it because of the Image Stabilization and 10X optical zoom. The additional 2.7X digital zoom doesn''t really give you anything you can''t get in Photoshop. Images are sharp (but IS won''t fully compensate if you''re sloppy with your shutter release technique). I seem to get about 40 to 50 shots between battery recharges. When the batteries do go, they go fast, though, so have an extra set. The flash doesn''t auto pop-up (which I consider good). Comes with remote control. I like to shoot at the SHQ jpg setting (45 shots on a 64MB media card). The power switch is also the reset settings switch, so expect to reset all your settings a few times until you get the hang of it. Exposure compensation is via a 4 position rocker switch on back - very convenient to use and surprisingly valuable. I wouldn''t have any heartburn recommending this camera to someone getting into the hobby - the camera records f-stop and shutter settings and exposure compensation, useful for analysis after session. Coupled with the LCD monitor, it gives you instant feedback on what''s working and I think helps improve photo skills.

Strength:

No expensive propriatary batteries, ie.SONY!!! Imaga stabilization worth its weight in gold. Full automatic to fully manual if you want it. Great flash indoor pictures. Long battery life on 4 AA NiCd''s, an extra set of everready''s at Kmart is 10 bucks. (Try buying a second InfoLithium Sony...) Good tech support to help with winXP issues.

Weakness:

Small standard memory card. Buy a 64mb or 128 on the day you buy this camera. Not a shirtpocket camera (still alot lighter than that old 35mm you still own) Why hasn''t Olympus put a bigger CCD in it. WinXP driver may have to be manually installed with this particular camera.

With recent price drops to 499.00 around town this camera is hard to beat. Nearly all pictures are crystal clear and "IN FOCUS" a claim many other cameras can not make. Full automatic program mode very simple and accurate almost of the time, but can be fooled with brightly backlit photos. After 10 months of use I would buy this camera again based on the image stabilization system alone. No need to spend 800 bucks for a 3+ or 4+ megapixil camera. Very satisfied after 10 months of ownership.

Strength:

Loooong zoom range, versatile, takes common 49 mm lens acc. Hooks up to my studio strobes. The IS feature is great.

Weakness:

Only stops down to f~8. Too plasticky, but hey, i''''m used to a Nikon F4 :)

I found this little jewel on clearance at Wal mart. Usually, I prefer Nikon cameras, and had been waiting (fruitlessly) for Nikon to come out with an entry level Digital SLR. But after playing around with this camera in the store, I fell in love with it. I decided it was time to put brand predjudice aside and buy it. I love the image quality, and the versatility of this camera, It will even sync with my studio strobes.

Strength:

10X zoom with stabilzer! Great pictures! 1.8" LCD is sharp & bright & clear. Great features: remote control, quick charger & batteries included! Easy to use! Super price/performance ratio!

Weakness:

NONE! Who care about the 8MB smart card since you can get a 128MB card for less than $50. (Most cameras only provide 8 or 16MB anyway!)

Great camera! Fun to use! Great pictures! I did my research on the internet for a month before I purchased this camera. The 10X zoom with stabilzer is hard to beat! There''s no way I will buy any other camera with less than 10X zoom power in the future. I bought a 128MB smart card with USB reader for $60 from Best buy. It stores 257 pictures in HQ mode. Each picture is around 450KB. It''s so easy and fast to transfer the images to my PC running Windows XP. It also includes a remote control and NiMH battery charger with 4 1600mAH batteries. I don''t think any other cameras can come close to this one within the $500 price tag! If you don''t need printouts bigger than 10"x8", this 2.1Mp camera is an excellent choice. Buy it! You won''t regret!

Strength:

Great optical zoom, image stabilazation (hand held shots as low as 1/15 sec.), adjustable ISO, Choice of metering, Choice of focus mode, Burst mode, HUGE built in memory buffer (fast shot to shot times), full time auto focus, AE lock, fast shutter speeds, little to no chromatic abrasions, People don''t normally think of an ultra zoom for close ups or portraiture but the macro mode woorks well and the depth of view can be controlled nicely for portraits by zooming and using aperature priority mode(you know nice soft backgrounds etc.), near 100% view finder blows away those rangefinder models, you don''t even need the LCD making it a big power saver, comes with EVERYTHING you need. Good menu system, may seem overwhelming at first but the layout is good.

Weakness:

This is not easy coming up with some! Low contrast and low light combined make autofocus almost useless (but that''s why there is a manual mode and you don''t run into these circumstances often). Aperature to F8 (one or two more stops would have been nice. Sometimes you have to change the ISO speed to keep the shutter speed slow, which the camera can do. Also the fact that this camera accepts filters helps alot). Absolutely have to shoot in SHQ or tiff mode to make certain there are no jaggies.

Put down those 3.3 megapixel cameras and pick up one of the best 2+ megapxel cameras made. This is a full featured camera with all the bells and whistles. The more I use this camera the more I love it. I have been testing the optics with shots that would easily show compression, color, and focus problems and this camera still suprises me.
