Strength:
Very good or editable photos on first shot most of the time.
Weakness:
Fails without warning with the lens locked in extended position. This happened twice. The first time was in 2005 while visiting Alberta, Canada. The second time was just today visiting Eugene, Oregon. No easy fix have been reported by other users experiencing this failure. I find it not worthwhile to send it in for the second time as buying a newer model is cheaper; perhaps from a different manufacturer .... unless Nikon come clean and resolves the defect free of charge. Very satisifactory while it worked. Customer Service Wanted six weeks for repair the first time at a cost of about half the price of the camera. Hey! This is a defective product ... a manufacturer defect!! Other reviews point to this problem with the same outcome. After the repair, there is no clue as to what really went wrong! I have a feeling it is a software failure that is causing a hardware failure. The manufacturer is very quiet about this! Similar Products Used: none |

This is a great camera for a newbie. While it is a little bigger than many in its class, it is ergonomically shaped and fits nicely in the hand.

Strength:
Durability.
Weakness:
Stupid little plastic battery door catch. I thought that this would be the weak point of the design and it was (lasted 2 years though). I repaired it with epoxy and a re-formed paper clip. The new Nikons use a different catch. I have owned the camera for over 3 years and have taken approximately 10,000 shots with it. I often use it for work were it has been subjected to moisture, dust, dirt, drops and temperature extremes. It has exceeded my expectations.
