Strength:
Superb videos. Over one hundred videos were made prior to the first camera's failure. The second camera failed right out of the box.
Weakness:
The first Canon VIXIA HF10 made 79 videos and all was well. Then it stopped transferring the movies to the computer. Software is iMovie; hardware is Intel-equipped Mac Pro (tower, not laptop), operating system is OS X 10.5.6, "Leopard." Three gigabytes of RAM are installed. No changes in computer, software, nor OS were made between camera success and failure. One day movies transferred; the next day they did not. iMovie reports failure to transfer movie from camera, even though we could review the movies in itunes. Attempts at archiving the movies also failed.
The Canon VIXIA HF10 makes great movies, but the camera turned out to be a disaster. Even after an authorized exchange, the replacement camera had the same failings in spite of the Canon service center staff member's claim that the problem had been corrected while in his care.
Customer Service Canon exchanged the first failed camera for a new one. The new camera failed out of the box. Canon authorized the second camera's return. Canon reported that there was a loose connector, which was corrected, and shipped back the second camera. It failed immediately with the same error message.
