Strength:

- Size
- Value
- Padded shoulder strap included.
- Carrying handle on top
- Well made and heavy stitching
- Lots of protection for a camera
- Easily converts from shoulder to belt holster configuration
- Optionally converts to a chest harness type of pack with added harness
- Padded divider included to partion case for shorter second lens
- Double main zipper pull

Weakness:

- front pockets not padded
- Large size somewhat limits its use, but if you buy one of these it is for a big camera
- Could use a more/denser padding in bottom areas
- feet on bottom of case might be a good addition for this size
- Needs a few more nooks and crannies inside or out
- Definitely not a catchall bag
- Water resistance of front pockets is questionable w/o added H20 Repellent

A monster case for a monster camera. Fits my Canon EOS 1d's with a 70-200 2.8 or an EOS 1v with PB-E2 attached and a big lens. Shorter focal lengths can store two lenses with included divider.

Primarily for the large pro camera body with an external battery pack/vertical grip or cameras that have one built-in and a large lens. Smaller cameras will not be held as tightly and may 'flop' around.

These are setup for the digital age with built in memory card systems that with a combination of flaps and red colored tags are to help remember which card has been used. Not as practical as I use far more cards at a time than are supported by the built in unit. Practical or not still a good idea and handy for added card storage as the holder is permanently attached to the inner front pocket.

This is 'camera case' not a carryall bag. It is large and has some added room though this style of holster/sling type of case is not for everyone or for every use.

Tamrac incorporate a modular system they call M*A*S that stands for Modular Accessory system that allows the system to be customized with optional external lens cases, flash/battery pack cases, etc carry what is desired. This is their system as opposed to just a big bag, which they make also.

Customer Service

Strength:

Well made as all Tamarac cases are. Newer design which has the side loops for the Modular syste. Therefore, you can use this bag for your body with long lens attached (up to 80-200 with lens hood reversed). Then add one or more lens pouches to the side strap(s). You now have a one body, three lens bag. Also there is a lens divider included where you can use one short lens with the body , and another short lens below. Has rain proor zipper/cover and is made from a good thick and padded grade of cordura. This size will fit the Nikon F5 and/or Nikon F100 w/battery pack MB-15, although packing a good padded thick strap becomes hard sinc there is little more room left over. There is a pouch in front (unpadded) that will hold several rools of film of maybe a polarizer (in it's case as the pouch is NOT padded).

Weakness:

None noted considering it's intended use.

This is the size to get for a body that has a battery booster or is built like th F5 Nikon. It will hold this with attched long lens (80-200/70-200 f/2.8 size - reverse the lens hood) The model 517 seems to be the same thing without the larger puch opening for large bodies. These bags are well made, and even better now that the side straps are included for the modular system lens cases etc. This gives you a quick "get up & go" case that can be added onto or slimmed down depending on your need for that day. I use mine in conjunction with the Tamrac 787 backpack. The F5 or F100 Nikon with 70-200mm attached is taken out of the backpack and then I carry it in the 519 to protect it. I can slip the Nikon 28-105 either in the 519 and switch with the 70-200 (sigma HSM) when needed, or add a medium lens pouch and attch to the side strap so the 70-200 can be set into the 519 pouch quickly while the side pouch protects the 28-105. It's your choice ghow you run it. Would give it 4 stars but based on low cost for good workmanship, I would rate it 5 stars since you can add to the sides so easily. Their service dept is good. This is one type bag I think that as far as function is better than Lowepro. You might like the Lowepro for their design "look", but the Tamrac seems to have more clean functionality ad is offered in specific sizes to fir the large bodies with large battery drives. You can get the smaller one and save some bulk if you don't run the larger bodies. anyone should find a use for the this lens pouch if they own a long lens they use a lot for sports etc.

Customer Service

Excellent. Used once to repair a broken strap on heavy bag. Repaired without questions and cleaned on top of it! Good Service - 5 Yr warranty.
