Review 1 of 3

Price Paid:  $350.00 from EBAY

Summary:

I work at the AV Dept at an University. I'm a student BBA and on a tight budget. We have Hi8s in our dept but i was lokng for something more high tech. I decide on the PV-DV101, becauseof the price. I found that the pv-dv201, 401 and 601, just had more options. The picture Q, is excellent in rooms with god light and great outside. In darkness there was grainess. Low light is never a friend of the video Cam. If you want a cheap but good Cam try the Panasonic 101 or higher. Some things to look for the CCD at 680,000, 20X zoom.

Strengths:

680,000 CCD, picture is really clear. The remote control (i had to buy that). The Price.

Weaknesses:

Not too good in the dark.

Similar Products Used:

Sony HI 8, ws ok, PV-DV601 and the 401, 201, just more options, no video difference. The 601 has a cool see in the dark option, i liked that. Sharp 450, stay away form the cam, low Q picture.

Customer Service:

Review 2 of 3

Price Paid:  $950.00 from Future Shop

Summary:

An entry-level digital camera at a good price. I bought this camera as a 18 year old student. The price was to the extent that by budget would allow and I am very satisfied with it. It makes me glad I didn''t buy a Hi 8 or 8mm cheepie. This is an excellent choice for anyone that wants to start shooting video with the ability to edit on a computer, right to being used to capture family events. All around I would definitly recommend this camera to anyone. If you have any questions about it please do not hesitate to contact me at: theadorust@hotmail.com

Strengths:

The 20x optical zoom is all I ever use, so picture quality is not compromised. This is an advantage over cameras with only a 10x optical zoom. The zoom can be set to max out at different points, so there is no risk of zooming in ridiculously too far accidentally Very small and light Incredible picture quality in sunlight and indoors when lights are used. (I have shot things using two standard 100w light bulbs mounted in trouble lights with excellent results) stereo audio recording sounds excellent and provides neat stereo effects Digital effects are neat to play with and are useful depending on what you plan to use it for.

Weaknesses:

Picture quality degrades under low light. Indoor shooting often need lights to be super crisp. Digital image stabilization is not as good as other optical image stabilization Digital still (pictures) are poor quality if they are transferred onto a computer using the supplied serial port cable. Using Fire wire (IEEE 1394) greatly improves this. This model lacks a analog input which I would like, but this depends on your use

Similar Products Used:

Many 8mm cameras, I spent three months researching other digital models both in store and online before buying mine.

Customer Service:

no need as of this time. When I bought Panasonic offered a mail in rebate which I recived about ten weeks after I sent it in.
