Price Paid:  $167.00 from online auction

Summary:

Purchased online and was very excited to receive this little camera. It was very innovative for the time period it came out(purchased in 1997), like all reviews (WOW It''s so small!! hehe) It is a small wonder and fun to use outdoors.

Strengths:

compact, easy to use

Weaknesses:

indoor use very poor

Similar Products Used:

Own an Olympus 360L very nice camera, prices dropping all the time and pixel rate climbing and becoming more affordable

Customer Service:

not used

Summary:

If you're looking for a great camera, look elsewhere! This model features poor resolution, and extremely high battery consumption. The camera does not include a power adapter nor does it have a tripod mount- repeated calls to Panasonic to order these accessories have resulted in repeated backorder status messages. 11 months of calls have not yet found these accessories in stock.Battery consumption is HORRIBLE- a recent shoot of 10 pictures used three sets of four AAA batteries by the time all the downloading was done- 12 batteries total. No, the LCD viewfinder was not attached.Resolution is only marginally acceptable in the hi-res mode, absolutely unacceptable in normal-res.Changing f-stops is a nightmare; you must use a tiny readout on the side of the cam, and cycle through many unlabelled menus to change the stop. If you don't get it right the first time, you must repeat the entire process. The process is so complicated I have never been able to do it without the manual in hand. The camera is only barely capable of taking pictures indoors- thank heaven for imaging software that allows for lighting correction. In short- NOT RECOMMENDED.

Summary:

I already have 2 digital cameras, so I am going to tear this camera apart and try to put the CCD into the back of a 35mm camera or Minolta 110 zoom I have,, I know it sounds crazy. But especially now since I've read the reviews of this camera.. I'm hoping the fuzzy pictures are because of the lens, and the 35mm lenses will help, but if anyone can help me do this, E-mail me athartfurd@davesworld.net

Summary:

This is my impression of this camera (previous experience is with 35mm film results, years and years with computers, this is my first digital camera):- Compact and easy to use (I actually have the 601A with the LCD). - Picture resolution low, not a camera for the main family album. (poor detail) - Power consumption is very poor. I have not been able to take more than a dozen or so pictures when the batteries fail. It is worst in cold weather. I've tried all types of batteries, no significant change in results. - Setup and data transfer to the computer good. Take the mfr's recommendation use a power adapter, if power consumption was poor while taken pictures it is much worst during communications with the computer.I would have been content with this camera if the power consumption was not so poor. Due to this problem I feel this camera is not worth the shipping cost.

Summary:

This camera was my first digital. After using it for a couple of months I finally mastered it. However, I had to enhance every picture that I took. It is a good learning tool. I used the camera for about 8 months very profitably. I have now advanced to "the best" a Sony Mavica and the experience with the Panasonic has helped.
