Review 2 of 6

Price Paid:  $500.00 from Malaysia

Summary:

Couple this lens with the 50-200, and you'll get an awesome multi-purpose kit from candid to events to serious studio work.
Th 14-54mm is very sharp, though ranked 4th in my Zuiko Digital lens uber-sharp ratings: 1) 50mm, 2) 11-22mm, 3) 50-200mm and 4) 14-54mm.

This lens is a God-send. Multi-purpose use from near-macro to portraiture. Sharpness and bokeh is well balanced, though not very good with bright backgrounds. I need to get the ZD 50/2 to achieve portraiture perfection.

Color and contrast is excellent, combined with the resolution sharpness making E-510 10MP really a 10MP.

At f/3.5 at 54mm, the DoF is a bit deep though. But still usable as it is still within F/4, but I lose a bit of flexibility in DoF control. In controlled environment such as studio this should not be a real problem, though.

Focus is fast, with less lens travel; and superbly accurate. I can get all the focus points spot on.

Strengths:

4x normal zoom, multi-purpose lens
fast focus
accurate focus
compact design
very sharp with pleasing bokeh

Weaknesses:

the least sharp of my 4 ZD lenses

Review 3 of 6

Price Paid:  $429.00 from B&H Photo Video

Summary:

I purchased this lens because I wanted to upgrade from the Olympus kit lens to a higher quality lens. I have been very happy with this lens so far. It's a faster lens than the kit lens and is built like a tank. It weighs twice as much as the kit lens. It focuses faster, quieter and easier than the kit lens. I also like it because it has a infinitiy mark and focuses much, much better in manual. This is a professional lens and it is obvious when you use it.
I also feel that it produces higher quality images than the kit lens, the 67mm lens size is 9mm larger than the kit. I also bought a polarizer and a ND graduate filter for the lens and they seem huge. I feel the larger mm size helps with the speed and quality of the lens. I would highly recommend this lens to anyone that owns an Olympus camera, the over all quality of the lens is superb. You won't be disapointed.

Strengths:

Speed and quiet when focusing
Superb image quality
Built tough, great for hazardous situations

Weaknesses:

None
