Review 1 of 4

Price Paid:  $0.00 from Office Depot

Summary:

This was my first digital camera and, I think, a great way to enter the digital photography age. I just had a simple 35mm camera prior to purchasing this one Christmas.

It was probably a mid-range camera at the time as far as P&S cameras and had 2.1 (?) MP. Took good indoor photos, the zoom was great (big sell for us) and the video capabilities were decent.

I didn't fully learn to use the camera for a bit until we got into racing radio controlled cars (off-road). People would always post action shots of buggies and 1/10th scale trucks so I got a few pointers from a message board and learned to use the camera a lot more fully. It had a lot of good manual options and settings and for the small MP's it worked pretty decently. I got a little more serious and was sent to the National's to take photos for a magazine and upped myself to an 8 MP camera that was a P&S.

Strengths:

Great camera. A lot of manual options and settings that allowed greater photos and better action shots, even of off-road 1/8 and 1/10 scale vehicles traveling from 10-30 MPH in bright light and low-light/cloudy conditions.

Photos came out well on screen. Sharp, decent color.

Weaknesses:

At the time it was pretty expensive, but probably due to the fact that they were relatively new at the time and it was before Christmas.

Compared to today's cameras, the shots are pretty grainy and not great for editing due to the low megapixels.

Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $550.00 from Sussex Camera Centre

Summary:

I was attracted to the camera by its long optical zoom and it has not disappointed. 10x zoom more than makes up for the meagre 2.1 mexapixels (you would expect at least 3.3 mp at this price point). A tripod is a good investment if you wish to take clear pictures at extreme zoom however. The range of manual and pre-programmed settings allows the user full control of the picture-taking process.

Strengths:

Long optical zoom. Complete range of flash and exposure settings. Good picture quality and reasonable battery life. The electronic viewfinder allows the camera to be used like an SLR and avoids any parallax error.

Weaknesses:

The elctronic viewfinder is less effective in low-light conditions, where an optical viewfinder would work well. I have noticed some colour-fringing in back-lit detail.

Similar Products Used:

Fuji 1.3 megapixel, fixed focus camera Pentax 3.1 megapixel high quality camera (neither of which were mine to keep)

Customer Service:

Never needed to use it
