Review 1 of 10

Price Paid:  $135.00 from online

Summary:

If you're a teen just wondering where to find a camera you can take with you anywhere to take pics of random events and your friends, this is the perfect camera for you!

Strengths:

It's small, light and you can carry it right in your bag. The picture quality is also nearly perfect.

Weaknesses:

There isn't an optimal zoom so you can't get close ups or anything like that.

Review 2 of 10

Price Paid:  $100.00 from eBay

Summary:

Great Camera for introduction to digital photograhy. This camera has many nice features at a great price (the camera has been discontinued, but you can still find NEW and Class A Refurbished on the net). The camera takes excellent pics for email and standard 3x5 photos. Haven't done larger ones yet. I have been using a 2.1 megapixel for a while and purchased this for my daughter. I was impressed at the quality of the pics. We have taken more than 250 pics on the included lithium battery, but we don't use the screen unless we need to. I also have a set of 1700 mAH batteries for when this one goes.

Strengths:

Price and features Picture quality (remembering it is 1 meagapixel) USB is reasonably fast

Weaknesses:

No optical zoom - but hey, $100 is great!

Kodak DC-215 ZOOM

Customer Service:

No required yet.

Review 3 of 10

Price Paid:  $149.00 from Radio Shack

Summary:

I believe the cameras sold by Radio Shack are probably refurbs given the price, but the one I got was in perfect condition and looked brand new in every regard. Unfortunately these cameras won''t work with certain computers and operating systems. I have a Compaq 2286 which uses a Cyrix CPU and Windows 98 (first edition) and the camera would not work with my computer at all! So I had to take it back to Radio Shack for a refund.

Strengths:

From what I could see of the pictures (I took four in all) they were all sharp and clear, properly exposed. The optics appear to be excellent and the flash didn''t overexposure the pictures of my Boston Terrier either, despite the amount the dog was moving when I snapped the pictures.

Weaknesses:

Requires Windows 98SE or better, Intel CPU. Settings not real easy, my Canon camcorder has easier to use menu system.

Customer Service:

No problems with Radio Shack.

Review 4 of 10

Price Paid:  $200.00 from Staples.com

Summary:

I''ve had this camera for about 4 months now. Having taken probably close to a thousand pictures, I will summarize the major strengths and weaknesses. The small size is probably the best feature of this camera. It fits nicely in your pocket, so you''ll find yourself carrying it to places you normally wouldn''t, and you''ll be surprised at the shots you get. The USB connection is fast and very simple to use. Video out feature is also handy when on vacations. The supplied 8 Mb card is pretty much useless except for shooting in low-res for email or web. Get a 64 Mb card, they''re cheap these days. It will NOT support a 128 Mb card. Battery consuption is quite good. Make sure you use 1500 mAH or higher NiMH batteries. The biggest problem (not really a problem, just an annoyance) I have with this camera is the interface. After taking a picture, it stays on the LCD for a few seconds and disappears. In order to bring it back on screen again, you must close the camera and press the display button and wait a few seconds. At that point, you can choose to delete the picture. The whole process takes too long and you have to wait for the camera to ''boot up'' again to continue shooting. IMO, the picture you just took should stay on the LCD until you accept or delete it. Image quality is excellent in daylight conditions. Not great at night time, but that is common in this price range. You will notice warpage to the sides of the image, especially when taking pictures of structures. The time in between shots varies significantly. Sometimes, it''s ready to go right away; other times, it can take up to 10 seconds (no kidding!). The camera is either trying to find focus, or is recharging the flash. Makes me question the marketing of "ultra fast point and shoot". In summary....this camera is great as an introduction to digital. The Canon digital elph is probably the only other camera smaller or lighter (I think it''s too small to hold steady). I have no regrets buying this Olympus. Get it and start shooting.

Strengths:

- Small size - USB connection - Video out - Nice macro shots

Weaknesses:

- Variable shot-to-shot time - Variable ''boot up'' time - LCD interface - No zoom (but you already knew that if you''re looking at this model) - Image warp on the sides

Kodak DC215

Customer Service:
