Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $275.00 from local used shop

Summary:

A nice handling lens, compact in comparison to newer AF lenses. I liked the feel of the IF focusing, similar to the big telephotos. VERY sharp at the near end of focus, decent but not outstanding for distant subjects. Purchased cheap without collar which was obtained from Nikon for ~$75.00

Strengths:

SHARP for it's intended use Bargains can be had 52mm filter size Well built longer working distance than AF lenses

Weaknesses:

slide out hood can loosen over time, hard to keep straight. hood somewhat short.

Similar Products Used:

all the 105 micros, including AF

Customer Service:

none ever needed for my Nikon lenses

Strengths:

Tack Sharp

Weaknesses:

a little heavy, not cheap

Review 4 of 4

Price Paid:  $900.00 from Used from Ken Hansen

Summary:

Outstanding lens. I traded up from my Nikon 105/2.8 Micro in order to increase working distance and narrow angle of view. This lens is every bit the optical equal to the 105 and I consider it to be one of my sharpest lenses. For portraits shot with this lens of any adult woman over the age of 35, you really need a soft filter - the lens is unforgivingly sharp. For macro, you can stand back from skittish critters and still fill the frame and the reduced angle of inclusion means it is easier to control what ends up in the backround of your macro shots. A great lens, but seriously expensive.

Strengths:

Outstanding optics Increased working distance Narrow angle of view Built like Nikon's used to be

Weaknesses:

Very expensive

Similar Products Used:

Nikon 105/2.8 macro

Customer Service:

none needed, but have found Nikon to be quite responsive in other instances.
