Strength:
Ergonomics, feel especially with the PB-E1 fitted, range of lenses available from independants manufacturers the Tamron 24-135 Anniversary really is worth every penny of the £300 + price tag, build quality I'm confident you could hit your subject over the head with it and take a photo while they were unconcious (not a recommendation). The opportunity to learn before taking the easier option (digital).
Weakness:
None, alright it can be a bit noisy with the PB-E1 fitted. Must remember this camera is the best part of 15 years old in these reviews however when compared to modern slr's it just blows them away especially if you consider the prices they are currenttly going for and the build quality and feel in the hand, if you are intending to take photography seriously buy one of these to cut your teeth on you won't regret it. I will not part with this camera now I have it, I coveted it in the early nineties when I was using my Eos 620 (which cost twice as much as the Eos1 when purchased 16 years ago) and it has not dissappointed, digital photography is here to stay and it really has taken a lot of skill away and made a lot easier taking that once in a life time photo, digital photograthy is a must for pro's but if you take that once in a lifetime photo on this then you are a pro's pro. Don't buy an ex-pro body if you can help it. Customer Service Contacted several times via email etc (no reply), go back to your retailer or go to an independant reputable camera/lense repair shop if needed. Strength:
build quality fast AF (especially in sports) 5.5 frames is perfect for sports. Why would you want to burn through a roll in 3 seconds using the 1V's 10 fps? easy layout of controls Its a Canon - AF, lenses, flash system is good, 95% of sports photographers use canon for good reason
Weakness:
Some complain that the Custom functions door is annoying, but at a sporting event you have all your custom functions preset and probably using manual mode anyway, so you dont have time to mess with the door This camera is fast. The autofocus is way ahead of its time. Its build is superb and when combined with the PB-E1, it feels almost unbreakable (which i know when at a pro soccer game a player knocked into me through the boards and the camera and I took a hard fall) The controls are easy to understand and are basically the same on today's top-of-the-line digital SLR's. This was definately the camera that changed the world. Customer Service Never needed it, but wouldn't be worried to use it if needed Similar Products Used: Nikon F90 (N90 US) - not bad Nikon N80 - slow AF, plastic |

Strength:
It`s a 1-series so has sensitive accurate AF, tough build (despite being plastic covered), interface is very close to the modern 1V and 1D series so easy to switch from one to the other - Viewscreens compatible, powerdrive and battery pack options the same as the latest 1V/3 series also - incredible value thesedays, I`d take one over anything bar a 1V in modern Film SLRs - doesn`t fog IR film..
Weakness:
1-point AF means no square lighting up in the viewfinder which can be a pain in low light for pinpoint AF - BP-E1 grip doesn`t have a vertical shutter release - no FEL - very noisy film rewind .. I the EOS1 very recently (Sept04) because I wanted a replacement for my EOS10 which was button compatible with my 1DS and didn`t want to spend the earth but also wanted proper selectable metering with spot, a cord remote, AA battery option (Excellent though the EOS-10 is, it chews batteries and there`s no grip options) and more heft. I don`t need the powerwinder but it would have been nice if the battery grip BP-E1 had a vertical shutter release though. The Build feels like stainless steel covered in the sort of unbreakable plastic I reckon modern guns are made of and I`ve seen a lot of EOS1s and yet to see a cracked one, so who needs the Alloy body of the 1V? .. It`s 1-point AF but as I only use mainly 1 point on the 1DS and the EOS-10, so what, the AF is fast and accurate though it would have been nice to have a square light up in the viewfinder for low light accurate focussing. Noise wise, it reminds me of the Powerwinder equipped Paparazzi Nikons of old ;-) but I`d not want to shoot a wedding and have the Roll rewind during the ceremony, it makes a right Racket! .. The results are as good as 35mm gets with excellent metering, superb focussing and the only advantage I can see to the 1N or 1V are the extra custom functions, these old original EOS1s are a total bargain at todays prices but be careful, a lot of them have been thrashed by PJs so may be worn internally also - go by cosmetic condition (Minters are rare but there are nice ones out there) and don`t pay more than £250 for a body only unless it IS a minter as there are plenty about to choose from. Customer Service Canon won`t repair older stuff like this but luckily Lehmanns and Fixation will Similar Products Used: EOS-1D, 1DS, 1V-HS - EOS-10, EOS-3, EOS-30 |

Strength:
Built quality, gripping Accurate metering Fast autofocus Bright viewfinder
Weakness:
LOUD .. this camera is a d*** loud. Don't ever think to rewind the film in the middle of the ceremonial event. EOS-1 is a superb camera, a giant leap for it's time. Superb in handling, gripping and control. Few buttons mean less complicated. Rarely used button was hidden behind a palm door, a very clever trick. Add an PB-E1, and it feels more comfortable in vertical shot. Everything you need in a professional demand is all in EOS-1. I might think to sell it, but I think am gonna have it for a year or so, at least until I can get 1V. Similar Products Used: Nikon N8008 Canon AE-1 Canon AT-1 Canon EOS-30 Canon EOS-1N |

Weakness:
its heavy.....but that goes with the pro.. its simply quality.....!! This Is One Of The Fab 5 from the camera world of fantastic and legendary products, which even today stands on its own despite its age. What can i say more which has not been said positively before and repeated again and again, about this filmbreaker of true art. Well, every time i use this cam i have the same feeling as the first time i tried it,it keep on to surprise me, how sharp ,detailed and well exposed my slides get when i use my old EOS One.Of course we all know that optics is the most of it,BUT believe me i tried other cams..this one IS better..may it be the Meter, the damped strong construction, fastness, build and more factors that truly goes with the Pro Caliber this model really represents.Investment for The Joy Of PhotoLife. Customer Service never neeeded it.. Similar Products Used: nikon minolta leica contax others ; Eos 1 is for sure one of the fabolous five .. |

Strength:
Strenghts: 1. Evaluative light measurement 2. Auto focus is quite (Ultrasonic) and fast 3. Well built 4. The backside wheel and manual exposure method
Weakness:
1. Lack of multispot 2. Really lousy flash system. Lacking both features (FEL - flash spot) and precision. 3. Lens pricing is outrageos both original Canon and third party. Also lenses have a rather plastic feel. 4. Needs a separate booster to go faster than 2,5 frames a second (the T-90 does 4,5 bultin) Have 2 T-90's with lots of lenses & flashes. Bought the EOS-1 with 2 zoom lenses and flash (all Canon). The EOS-1 is a sturdy and practical camera - fast and easy to work with. I find myself not in that much need of autofocusing as I thought I would be when purchasing the camera (main reason was auto focus even though I get 1-2 frames per roll of film out of focus with the T-90's). Compared with T-90 it has several strenghts and drawbacks - see strengths and weaknesses. All together I am not convinced that I will keep the EOS-1 but possibly continue with the T-90's until the expire since I do not really need the autofocusing. However I am getting older by the day and might need autofocus in the near future..... Customer Service None so far. Similar Products Used: Canon A-1, Canon F-1, Canon T-90 |

Strength:
HUGE! Simple, rugged layout that's easy to get. Pro build, pro results.
Weakness:
Old. That darned little door on the side for the custom functions and autobracketing. First, let me clarify the circumstances under which I am writing this review... I bought The Big One a while ago, in bargain condition, and had to return it after a few months' use because it suffered a total electronic breakdown-- what would you expect from a decade-old camera that had been very heavily used for so long? BUT, even though my experience was less than satisfactory, I still miss my EOS-1 and I wish to this day that I'd simply gotten it repaired and kept on clicking. This thing is a MAMMOTH and makes anyone holding it feel like a real photographer. And it's still completely satisfactory for those who want something that's manageable and reliable and completely capable. What's the difference between the 1 and the 1V? 1V goes faster (who needs to burn through a roll in 3 seconds?) more advanced flash capabilities, (like anyone seriously shooting portraits would use external camera flashes instead of softened strobes) and a 3-billion AF sensor matrix thing which isn't nearly as big as it should be. I'd rather spend $1000 less and get something that can autofocus, autobracket, spot meter and track moving objects. Sometimes, it's better to be able to have a moment between shots to think things out. Customer Service They gave me a refund! Strength:
1.Actual metering and quiet foucusing. 2.Possess enough function for taking good photography.
Weakness:
1.As the same, it is too heavy. 2.I cannot find method to have mirror log up. 1. This camera have very actual metering in both bright and dark condition. 2. The auto-fucus is quiet, fast and actual. 3. Spot metering is very useful, I almost stick to this metering. 4. I use Velvia or Provia ,both give me very fine and great result even enlarge the photo up to 16x20". 5. I suggest you to use cannon L lens to get good resolution. 6. Finally, I only use manual function and do not need other function normally. Customer Service No need at all Similar Products Used: Pentax 30N Pentax MZ30 Cannon EOS 30 Seagull DF200 |

Strength:
Built like a tank, Solid. Reliability. Fast Flash synch 1/250 Great lens system. Easy to learn without a book.
Weakness:
Noisy motor drive. Wish it was a little quieter. What can I say. I bought one in near mint condition about a year ago and didnt think I'd ever sell it. Then, as the new stuff keeps coming out, I decided to try the EOS 7E since it was quieter and lighter. Well, six months have past and I'm back with the EOS 1! Will probably add another one in the near future. This camera just rocks...It is the undoubtedly the most solid camera I've ever owned bar none. Someday in the future, I'd like to try the 1V to compare it with. I just feel more at home with the EOS 1 than the Elan 7E. The Elan 7E isnt bad, but the EOS1 just has that feel. Autofocusing is close to the 7E. The EOS1 just gives you the feeling of confidence. Its a helluva camera. Customer Service Never had to use yet.
