I am surprised at how much quality you get for $90, compared to lot of the other non-pro tripods in this price range. Even though this is just a junior model, it's still made of genuine Made in Italy Manfrotto DNA. All the parts are well designed, with clever touches like the reversible center post for low angle shooting. You do have to make sure you like the pan/tilt head before buying, because you're stuck with it. It took some getting used to, but now it's very easy and fast to operate. Seriously consider the Bogen 719 Digi series if you want a ball head. Also, this is a compact tripod, but I would not consider it very portable. I bring it when I know I need to set up a shot, and it works great for this, but it's a bit too big and heavy to just throw in a backpack. I've been using this tripod for a year now, and it's holding up great, save for the bit of sand I got accidentally got in the legs.

Well built lightweight tripod that takes a lot of abuse. Rigid and stable for most things 35mm, but it probably isn't the best choice for a really heavy setup or high winds. Reversible center column for those down in the dirt shots. Excellent value.

Can''t change head.

I love this tripod! My main concerns were weight and ease of set-up. The other Bogens were just too heavy for me to hold with 1 hand and extend the legs with the other. The Bogen ''junior'' seemed to be a little lighter than the others but still sturdy enough to hold my N80 and a 28-200mm zoom lens.

A very good tripod for the price. It''s easy to set up and quite rigid. I used it last week for some night-time photography (=long exposure times) in pretty strong winds with only a pocket sized camera to weigh it down, and still the pictures were sharp. The head is a pan-tilt head that makes composing a bit less intuitive than with a ball head. I think it works pretty good after all, the only thing that is a bit awkward is getting the horizon straight. This only needs to be done once every time the tripod is moved so I can live with it. The tripod is a little too large to fit in a normal backpack, but I can fit it in if I take the center pole off and use a little violence. However, if I do this the switch that locks the center pole falls off -it''s held in place by the pole itself somehow. I need to attach the center pole again upside down to keep it all together, which makes packing and unpacking a little more time consuming.

A perfect 2nd or 3rd tripod for the person wanting and easy to carry and use value piece of euipment

Not intended for much above the 35mm or digital market. But does well otherwise.

Highly recomended as a great value for the casual to serious user who want the most for their money with out the bulk and weight of other tripods out ther in the similar or same price range.

Excellent tripod for beginner to semi-serious photographer. Unfortunately, you cannot change the head. However, I really like this type of pan tilt head. I can use it with my video camera. The price is unbelievable; it costs almost the same as a decent quick release head alone. I was initially hesitant to buy it because of the 4 section legs (3 is supposed to be better) and the plastic leg clamps (metal is supposed to be more durable). However, after playing around with it in the camera store, I found that it was more rigid and more sturdy that the basic bogen (3001?) which costs much more without a head. The camera/lens weight rating of the junior tripod is 11 pounds. After about two years of use, there has been no clamp failure. I would note that some very expensive carbon tripods also use 4 sections and similar twist leg clamps. The leg extends to a very comfortable height. With the center post extended about eight inches, my camera is at eyelevel (I am 5' 11"). BTW, the center post is lock down with a simple friction switch which is very secure and easier to use than a bolt. I feel no need to upgrade. If you are new photographer and are interested in using a good tripod, I suggest you take a serious look at this model. You may end up like a lot of photographers and find that you don't like the inconvenience of lugging around a tripod. This tripod won't break the bank. And I am confident that you will find this tripod to be more than adequate for most uses.

I purchased the European version, called Manfrotto Junior 390. It's fairly light, and quite easy to use. There are 4 leg sections while the usual is 3. The leg clamps are great - you can unlock all three clamps in one fluid motion of the hand. There are no protruding pieces on the legs.

The head is non-interchangeable. Of course, that's only a problem if you don't like the Pan-Tilt head. I believe the installed head is good, the quick release works well, its easy to lock the camera in position. It can hold a heavy 500 mm lens. Probably too small for medium format photography, and certainly too small for large-format cameras.

Great price to feature ratio, good pod for taking on a climb or hike, the difference between this tripod and a pro model is for the most part-PRICE!

I don't make a living as a pro photographer, but I am an professional artist who at the age of 23 is painting internationaly, including some works in Rome, thus I need the ability to take professional-quality photos for documentation and my portfolio. . . for these applications this pod is all you need, otherwise I enjoy photography as a passion and virtually never bring a tripod on my excursions.
