Price Paid:  $298.00 from outpost.com

Model Reviewed:
Epson Photo 750

Summary:

Excellent photo quality printer. My friends were surprised to see the quality output; it looks as good as a traditional photo. Good companion for my Nikon Coolpix 950 digicam.
Initially it took some tweaking to make the photos come out right (sometimes it did not seem to know what size paper it was printing on), but eventually I figured it out. It's not as user friendly as HP printers.

Strengths:

Great looking photos, vibrant colors.

Weaknesses:

1) Prints fade quickly (within a few months if exposed to light). I have heard that some companies sell archival inks and papers, but did not pursue that.
2) Noisy

Similar Products Used:

None - but I am thinking about getting the new Epson 1280 soon. I have read it prints larger format (13X19 versus 8X10) and its prints last longer than the 750.

Customer Service:

Did not use.

Price Paid:  $245.00 from Computer fair at Leicester

Model Reviewed:
Epson Stylus Photo 750

Summary:

Superb printer with very good colour matching. In my opinion, this printer produces prints of the same quality as later generation Epson photo printers. The best thing is, you can still recycle the inks on this printer and get about 50% more from the black and colour cartridges... you can't do it with the later "intelligent" cartridges with the 870... etc. Apart from this, if you are into B&W prints, you can get Lysonic ink cartridges for this printer (and the photo 1200).

Strengths:

1) Accurate and very good colours
2) Cheap on consumerbles (relative to others due to ink recycling)

Weaknesses:

1) Noisy
2) lots of mechanical vibration

Similar Products Used:

Epson 870 and a few 4-colour Epson printers

Customer Service:

Not needed yet (touch wood!)

Model Reviewed:
Epson Stylus Photo 750

Summary:

I am very happy with this printer. I got it new in December 2000 (from CDW) for only $130, and am not in the least disappointed. The sharpness seems average for a printer in this price range, but the color reproduction is EXCELLENT (I credit the 6-color inks). Of course, the key to getting great output is to have great input -- don't expect great 5"x7"'s or even 4"x6"'s with a 640x480 camera! And if you want to print scanned images, be sure to scan with at least 200 DPI resolution. Text quality is good, you won't be disappointed with your letters/resume's. I don't think you can find a better printer in this price range - if you need a photo printer and can find a Stylus Photo 750 for less than $150, buy it!

Strengths:

great value; excellent color reproduction; easy-to-follow installation instructions

Weaknesses:

hard-to-find inks

Similar Products Used:

HP 812C

Price Paid:  $127.00 from online

Model Reviewed:
Epson Stylus Photo 750

Summary:

This has got to be THE BEST inkjet printer on the market right now for the money. I have used everything from Brother to Canon, Sharp & Lexmark to H.P. (I won't even talk about my old Apollo 1250i). It's print speed at highest resolution & photo quality is noticably faster than an HP R60 printing at only 600x300 dpi! Even at it's "Normal" mode, the Epson Photo 750's text output is strong, bold, and very crisp, oh... and quite quick. Setup? Piece of cake? Noisy? A bit, but about average. Shakey? Well, I have a solid desk, so I didn't notice. This one's a keeper!

Strengths:

Photos & text are phenomenal! Even makes my own scans look great. Low Price. Cartridges are average price, and easily found anywhere online. Solidly built. Prints are dry almost immediately when done.

Weaknesses:

The printer seems a bit large on the desk, but really no more than an HP 900 series. Very liveable. Does not print instantly yet. You still have to wait a few moments (laugh). What will another 3 years bring?

Similar Products Used:

HP 970Cse - but pales in comparison, even with HP's Photo RetIII Technonlogy.

Customer Service:

Have not had to use.

Review 5 of 20

Summary:

The photo quality of this printer is unbelievable!! I had been using an HP 812 which prints O.K pictures but I just invested in an Olympus C 2020 2.1 megapixel ( which I love too ) and wanted the best output, not just O.K. I read alot of reviews and found a floor model on clearence and paid $150.00. Had a little trouble installing but worked that out and printed my first picture which came out faded pale blue. Not to give up I ran the head cleaning utility a few times till the test patterns matched and printed out a BEAUTIFUL 8x10 fall foliage scene that I printed last nite on my HP. Next to this this the HP 812 print is a joke! Deep rich detailed colors that jump out at you. No sense having a great digital camera and only getting O.K photos. If you have a digital camera this is the printer to get.

Strengths:

Hi quality, deep rich color better than lab prints. Price. (lots of deals out there)

Weaknesses:

Photos look to real. People will not believe you printed them off your computer. :)

Similar Products Used:

HP 812 ( I now laugh )

Customer Service:

Have not had to use.
