Review 1 of 3

Price Paid:  $35.00 from Pro Photo Connection

Summary:

I have used all of the Ilford Galerie Print materials and have been very satisfied with them all. They are very heavyweight print materials and contrary to the review by NikolaDi I have no problem with any of the several surfaces available. Color management is very stable and the Surface brightness is excellent. Most of my printing is large format, between 13 X 19 and 24 X 30 on an HP Designjet 130 Printer.

Color quality and fidelity is excellent with no color shifts apparent. Maximum resolution prints do require several hours for complete drying of the inks to avoid any possible damage to the surface of the prints.

I have found the papers equivalent to any of the high end papers available and would recommend them to any serious photographer.

Strengths:

Durability, color fidelity, wide range of surfaces available

Weaknesses:

Slow drying times for higher density prints at high resolutions.

Similar Products Used:

Epson, Kodak, Hannamule, Pictoricio, Archival Digital Imaging Museo II, and Legion Professional Digital Art Paper

Review 2 of 3

Price Paid:  $0.00 from B&H

Summary:

Have tried those that come in 50 sheet packs (carry same name but are 240 gsm) and these things definitely do not give "an elegant professional finish" - as claimed by Ilford. I wanted to save some $$$ going for Ilford istead of more expensive Epsons and have wasted all that money. After opening boxes could not return them - of course! Ilford provides two confusing instructions how to use it with Epson R1400 but nothing works. Tried to print on R230 to see if Claria inks (R1400) are maybe not compatible - Ilford claims that they are – but have got
the same poor results. Ilford offers ICC profiles for download but they are useless - on all my printers. With custom made ICCs it was much better (color wise) but the finish was as bad. Inks simple stay on the top of this garbage. Basically, you have kind of prints you would get 10-15 years ago, at the best. Or what you would have if you by cheap(?) "generic" papers sold at your local stationary today. If you do not believe what I say here be smart and try it fist - Ilford offers some starter kits. I did not try, I trusted Ilford because of my "film times", but will never buy their “digital” paper again. Why would I? Epson has never disappointed me! And I do not think that it is too expensive – not anymore. Their printers, inks, papers and ICCs definitely work - and work every time. They give you what Epson claims that they should - and if you need their support Epson will be there for you. At Ilford they did not even bother to responded to my initial (and friendly) request for their help. What help? The only thing they could do would be to take this garbage back - and they will not do that! I initially thought that I was doing something wrong. Yes I was, I went cheap - or I thought so.

Strengths:

No strengths regarding print quality - less than average in my opinion. And claims that can be found here about superior longevity of Ilford papers are not really founded... You can only wait and see. It probably relays on inks as much - or even more, and has very little to do with Ilford.

Weaknesses:

Non-photographic finish

Similar Products Used:

Epson Premium range papers

Customer Service:

I am not sure if it exists. Nobody has ever replied to me e-mails.

The best image stability and longevity of any glossy paper on the market. Excellent sharpness and contrast range. Highly recommended.

broad tonal range, sharpness, high image stability

Weaknesses:

Not completly dry after it emerges from the printer. Final image evaluation should be done after drying is complete
