Strength:
It's a Nikkor!!!!!
Weakness:
None noted so far.... I had this lens about 20 years ago and sold it. A foolish move. I've missed this lens since then and have been waiting for a "like new" copy. Found it recently through a friend. This is, in my opinion the best of the 28's that Nikon has made. I have the 28 F2.8 AIS and this one. The F2.8 is great for close up wide angle work but the F2 is great both in close up and distance scenes for the landscape photography that I do. Bjorn Rorslett gives this lens a "5". You can put money on that rating.. Similar Products Used: Too many Nikkors to mention.... |

Strength:
Very sharp from f/4 thru f/8. Can shoot directly into light sources.
Weakness:
A bit soft wide open, recommend stopping down a stop or two if you can. Power range of this lens is f/4 thru f/8. A real treasure. Splendid photos. I had noticed two coffee table sized books which prominently featured oversize photos with this lens, and I must say, it performs admirably. Clearly better than the 24 mm f/2.8 in terms of sharpness and flare control. Similar Products Used: About 60 Nikon lenses, 5 Leica/Contax Lenses. |

Strength:
Very nuce performance all around -- sharpness, contrast, and distortion.
Weakness:
Not available in AF. I just got this. I''ve been shooting Olympus OM4Ts for 15 years but they finally discontinued the OM line. I switched to the F100 (I''m too used to spot metering to change now) and I do wish they made this in AF so it could really work with the 3D flash metering. I find it ridiculous that Nikon only makes a 28mm 2.8 (too slow) and a 28mm 1.4 (too big) in AF. Nonetheless, this is really a very nice lens and compares very favorably with my old Zuiko. Nice contrast and sharpness and no appreciable fall-off at the corners. Customer Service None so far Similar Products Used: Zuiko 28mm 2.0 |

Strength:
Very very sharp; never seen any smooth effects at the corners.
Weakness:
None Got this one from ebay in A+ condition few months ago and makes me happy since. Sharp, fast and well built. Even at 2.0 this one is sharp at the edge. Great for landscapes when my 18-35 is not with me (ha ha...it''s always of course..). CRC glasses are doing a fine job. Works fantastic with my F3HP. Strength:
Extremely sharp at centre even wide-open. Not much bulky than 28/2.8. No vignetting.
Weakness:
Focus ring too loose. Hood HN1 not too effective. Bought this AI lens for few months. It compares well with the well-claimed 28/2.8 ais at all apertures, even more better at far distance. Very nice of close-up; too sharp at the centre even at f2; the degree of background blurring is drastic from f2.8 to f2. Customer Service Very good lens CLA at NikonHK at reasonable charge.
