Strength:

The vignetting with my wide angle lens is of concern, enough to make me take it back to the store and exchange it for a slimer ringed filter, if you use wide angle lens for landscapes a lot you may well find this filter a problem. Other than that I have taken some great photo's with it. Naperville Mobile Truck Repair

I love this camera & have used it for a good ten years. I haven't had any trouble until just this year when the front of it jams up but it still takes pictures. I am looking to buy another one. I love this camera & have had so many compliments on my photos.

Customer Service

Haven't used but need to. Was told it wouldn't be worth fixing the camera cuz it's too expensive so that is a bummer.

Strength:

SMALL, 4X ZOOM, ACCEPTABLE FLASH, PRICE,QUALITY OF PICTURES.

Weakness:

A LITTLE BIT LARGER THAN I WOULD LIKE (IT IS THE WORLDS SMALLEST 4X ZOOM) BUT I''M JUST NIT PICKING

THIS CAMERA WAS PURCHSED TO REPLACE OUR PREVIOUS ELPH CAMERA (2X ZOOM VERSION) THIS CAMERA WAS AN INCREDIBLE UP GRADE NOT ONLY THE LONGER ZOOM, BUT THE MUCH BRIGHTER FLASH. OUR PREVIOUS ELPH WAS TERRIBLE AT PHOTOS TAKEN IN MEDIUM LIGHT AT ANY DISTANCE FURTHER THAN 10 FEET. IT DOES SUCH A GREAT JOB THAT WE HAVE STOPPED USING OUR CHINNON GENISIS IV CAMERA.

Strength:

Compact

Weakness:

Picture not as clear as 35mm

Not sure if it's the camera or the APS film but pictures are not as clear as with the 35mm cameras. However, it's very compact and close shot of people are not bad. It just not very good for landscape.

Strength:

solid through and through. great images, sharp. nice design. canon packs in the overrides.

Weakness:

panoramics grainy as in all aps cameras.flap door and controls on back takes time to get used to.lens a bit slow.

key to camera is using the overrides. + - 1.5 exp.comp.,spot exposure mode, which can be set not to turn off, when cameras off,and the flash off mode can be utilized with exp. comp. at same time.

Strength:

- Very attractive, eye-catching design
- packed with features for a point & shoot
- easy to use
- lightweight
- solid design

Weakness:

Buttons too small.

I just got back my first set of APS prints from a trip to Orlando. I must say I am *really* impressed by the quality of the pictures this camera takes. I used to own a Nikon N70 SLR (that got stolen recently) and I decided to get a point and shoot camera as a temporary replacement while I was grieving over the loss of my "real" camera. I had seen some prints from a friend's APS camera and wasnt particularly impressed by the grain quality - esp on the panaromic shots. So it was with quite a bit of skepticism that I invested in the elph 490Z. I am pleasantly surprised. The camera is very easy to use for point and shoot situations and gives you enough options if you wish to get a little more creative.
The flip open lens cover/flash is a really nice design touch. My wife used it at a wedding recently and apparently the camera got quite a bit of attention. The flash is very effective and some of the night outdoor pictures came out excellent. I would recommend understanding all the different settings before taking pictures that are out of the ordinary. I have only been using 100 and 200 film because 400 APS film prints i have seen seem to have really poor grain quality.
All in all I am in love with this camera. It is great for carrying around on vacations involving walking, hiking etc where lugging around a bulky SLR might not be a lot of fun.
Great job Canon (this is coming from a Nikon fan :).

Weakness:

This is the worst camera that canon has ever made. It works ok during day light out doors. However, at night time, any kind of light messes up the whole picture. I have lost many irreplacable pictures.

If you have money to waste, just sent it to me istead of buying this camera.

Customer Service

During its warranty, I sent it for repair. However, non of its problems was repaired. The extended time of warranty (7 yrs) that I bought was a waste of time and so is the camera.
