Strength:
It is compact and easy to use.
Weakness:
The lens makes noise coming in or out. The batteries are short lived. What you see in the viewfinder does not quite match up with the LCD screen. The view sometimes looks like it is raining, (noise)when you are ready to take a picture, both in still pictures and in movie playback, The quality of the pictures get worse when zoomed in for viewing or cropping. This can also be seen in your computer. The Canon Power Shot A1100 IS has an eyepiece, and a 2.7 inch LCD display, large enough for viewing. It has a slim body and thicker grip to hold it. It is user friendly, especially if you already used a Power Shot before. It has 12.1 Megapixels and a 4x optical zoom and an image stablizer, built in auto/manual flash, red eye reduction/low light bulb built in. It is a good gift for a child or beginner.
