The vibration compensation works quickly and nicely -- you can see and feel the lens settle when it's ready.

The main problem with the lens is a lack of sharpness or clarity, hand-held or on a tripod. All pictures needed significant editing, especially sharpening. Although you expect some editing when shooting raw, these pictures need more than the usual.

Be careful not to do any manual focusing when it's in auto-focus mode. Nikon lenses allow this, but the Tamron does not.

The lens is relatively light-weight for carrying around in the field. The lock to stop lens creep is also helpful.
