Strength:
Bokeh
Weakness:
I don't want to quote build quality as a weakness (but have to mention here for clarification since some people might have written it as a weakness) because you cannot expect all metal construction for the price. It is good quality polycarbonate and will surely last quite long if not forever. I really wanted a macro lens because when you do not have the time to go out to scenic places just your backyard can open up a whole new world that is waiting to be explored and represented in beautiful pictures. A world which you don't even know exists until you have a good quality macro lens like the Tamron 90mm. After spending days comparing this with Nikon 105mm and Sigma 105mm, I was convinced that this is the best of the league. I am a die hard Nikon fan and am willing to pay extra hundreds $$$ for that intangible optical quality, but when it comes to this lens the story is a bit different. This lens is at par or even better than the nikkor 105. You save more than $400 with this fine piece of glass and lose nothing but VR and AFS. Not a significant considering the nature of macro work where both these features are not critical. The manual/ auto focus switching is very cool push pull. The bokeh is phenomenal and the color saturation and sharpness is heavenly. You need to use this to know what I mean. Sigma 105 is also a good macro lens but doesn't have such a pleasing bokeh. If you want more working distance you can go for the nikkor but then you pay significantly more and get little in return. Just wanted to let people know that though this is a third party lens, it is just incredible. Well done Tamron! Customer Service Good place to buy stuff. These are nice reliable guys. |

Strength:
Handy size and easy controls
Weakness:
The mount is sticky and shifts fromAE to Manual when I lock it on. Several photos show a blurriness that is likely a tipped optical plane, something no independent lens manufacturer likes to mention: their lens is as good as the mate-up with whatever camera you own. Excellent lens length for small groups at a distance, esp nice for environmental portraiture. The weak link is not the optics but the mount. Customer Service Purchased second hand (know why now) and no support possible Similar Products Used: Mostly use Canon prime lenses. |

Weakness:
None so far I feeling pretty pleased with myself, having just purchased this lens used, but in perfect "as new" condition, for a good price. I have been shooting like mad, and I am very impressed by everything about this lens. Great image quality. Excellent feel to manual focusing. What more do you want? Customer Service not tried Similar Products Used: various. Don't even think of trying to get away with the macro end of you favourite zoom. |

D***** Sharp, light weight yet feels solid
Weakness:
Just a little too sharp for portrait work As a replacement for my FD 50mm macro, this is a stunner of a lens. This is my first foray into non canon lenses and as I am currently switching from a T90 based system to an EOS 1n, I'm replacing my canon lenses with Sigma and Tamron ... Well done Tamron you have another convert Similar Products Used: Canon 50mm Macro |

Strength:
Sharp, outstanding color reproduction, nice-manual focus, very deeply recessed front element so no hood is really needed. Also an excellent portrait lens.
Weakness:
None I vould think of. I have used many different quality macro lenses, the Tamron 90mm F2.8 and its ealier veriosn 90mm F2.5 are among the best. They never failed to produce quality pictures for me. Very sharp images and easy to focus. Cost compared to comparable OEM lenses.
Weakness:
Its plastic, but what isn''''t. This is a fantastic lense for Macro work. I use this primarly to shoot Macro flower images and the results are, IMO stunning. Customer Service I''''ve had the lense over a year, it gets used at least once a week, and no need or service. Similar Products Used: Pentax 50mm 1:2 Macro. |
